 Content Standard- The learner demonstrates understanding of: South and


West Asian Literature and an expression of philosophical and religious beliefs;
information flow in various text types; reality; fantasy and opinion in listening
and viewing materials; word decoding strategies, and use of information
sources, active/passive constructions, direct/reported speech, perfect tenses,
and logical connectors in journalistic writing.

 Performance Standard – The learner transfers learning by composing


journalistic text, the content of which may be used in composing and
delivering a memorized oral speech featuring use of properly acknowledge
information sources, grammatical signals for opinion-making, persuasion, and
emphasis, and appropriate prosodic features, stance and behavior.

 Learning Competencies
a. Use active and passive constructions on journalistic contents EN8G-
IVf-13
II. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. Identify the difference between direct and indirect speech;
2. State the rules in changing direct to indirect speech; and
3. Change direct to indirect speech through differentiated activities.

III. Subject Matter:


a. Topic: THE REAL MAN by Mencius
b. References: K to 12 Basic Education Program Teaching Guide in
English for Grade 8, internet
c. Materials: board, chalk

B. Motivation
- The teacher will ask the students to read the telephone
conversation on the book.

C. Lesson Proper

a. Activity
- The students will read and understand the meaning of direct and
indirect speech.

b. Analysis
- The teacher will discuss the direct and indirect speech.
-The students will participate to the class discussion.

c. Abstraction
-The students will do a board work activity.
-The students will write their sentences on the board and will show to
the class how to write a direct and indirect sentences.

d. Application
- The students will perform differentiated activities.
