Elementary Level English Curriculum
In addition, different learners have different objectives, have special learning needs and, above
all, have different learning habits or styles. However, there are also several different methods
that we can try and apply. The best way to teach English is a difficult question as there is not
just one best method for all learners to learn from you hence, teachers need to use different
kinds of methods and materials and use them in a way that works on the basics before they get into
anything more advanced.
In fact, it is time of social media and visual learning thus, using different tools like social
network, the internet, magazines, comics, videos, movies, TV shows, and news makes
teaching and learning more exciting, easy and effective.
Finally, At English Studio we have a zero tolerance policy towards speaking other language
than English in the class. Therefore, our teachers are requested not to allow students to
speak their mother tongue while they are in the class. Teachers can always use variety of
methods such as body language, flash cards, pictures of the objects and/or videos to
translate and teach a vocabulary meaning for students. Although, this looks hard and quite
challenging at first few days of the class but soon students will get used to with it.
A1 level of English would be sufficient for very simple interactions, according to the official Common
European Framework of Reference for Languages CEFR guidelines, that we at English Studio follow
someone at the A1 level in English:
1. Can understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at
the satisfaction of needs of a concrete type.
2. Can introduce herself and others and can ask and answer questions about personal
details such as where she lives, people she knows, and things she has.
3. Can interact with other people in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and
clearly and is prepared to help.
The official can-do statements are broken down into smaller portion for teaching purposes.
This more detailed skill breakdown can help you assess our prospective student’s English
level, or help our teachers to assess a student’s level. For example, a student at the A1 level
in English will be able to:
▪ introduce him/herself simply and use basic greetings.
▪ tell where he and others are from and give a basic description of his city.
▪ talk simply about family and colleagues, describing their appearance and
personalities.
▪ discuss clothing at a basic level and ask salesclerks simple questions about it.
▪ talk about favorite foods and make simple orders for take-out food.
▪ talk about daily activities and arrange meetings with friends and colleagues.
▪ describe current weather conditions and suggest activities according to the weather
forecast.
▪ talk in general terms about his health and describe common medical symptoms to a
doctor.
▪ describe the location of his home and give simple directions.
▪ talk about his hobbies and interests and makes plans for fun activities with friends or
colleagues.
▪ complete basic transactions at a hotel, including checking in and checking out.
▪ discuss common products, make basic purchases and return faulty items.
• Reading – Student understands the content of the simpler texts (labels, posters,
catalogues, ads, menus, job offers, schedules), guesses the unknown words on a
contextual basis.
Reminder:
Dear teachers, please note that there are total of 38 lessons in A1 level and it is the teacher’s duty
and responsibility to teach them all. Our A1 students expect to learn all the below grammar,
vocabulary topics and language functions. ECUT is there to help and support you to teach them each
and every element of it sufficiently and to prepare for you what you may need for resources.
You are free to categorise the elements according to your will however, it is a requirement that you
to have a lesson plan ready at least a day in advance. The lesson plan template we have given you is
what we want you to use to prepare your lesson plan. English Studio Educational Coordination Unit
ECUT has the responsibility to follow and randomly check to make sure that
you are teaching according to the curriculum given to you and test your
students to make sure they are learning and heading the right direction.
