Segment Usage
CSPs often buy multiple types of CPUs and servers for their diverse
compute needs (for example, external product offering versus internal
• Communication Service business support). Intel® SST-PP allows a CPU to be run with three
Provider (CSP) different performance profiles (for example, the CPU has a higher
base frequency with few active cores), meaning that one CPU can be
used in (or repurposed for) multiple usage scenarios.
Intel® SST-PP enables IaaS providers to increase the CPU base
frequency (by turning off cores) and use one CPU to meet multiple

Service-Level Agreements (SLAs). This results in an SKU reduction
Service (IaaS)
and an improved server utilization, which reduces the Total Cost of
Ownership (TCO).
It is often time consuming to replace and upgrade servers housed in
• Colocation Center colocation centers. Intel® SST-PP will enable a single server to be
(COLO) optimized for more workloads, reducing the need to replace and
• Hub Management upgrade servers. This reduces the Time to Market (TTM), improving
their top and bottom line.
Day and night usage:
• Financial Services
Commonly, media studios use servers for Virtual Device Infrastructure

(DDC)
cores running in parallel.
SST-PP provides the capability to configure the CPU to run at 3 distinct operating points. Each operating
point is defined by a core count with a base frequency associated to that core count.
With SST-PP, the feature can be enabled in the BIOS at boot or during runtime if the OS or hypervisor
supports this.

With SST-BF, the feature can be enabled in the BIOS at boot or during runtime if the OS or hypervisor
supports this.
How many cores are high or low priority and which cores are high or low priority are set by Intel and

Software chooses cores to become capable of turbo frequencies beyond traditional max frequency limit.
These cores are referred to as High Priority (HP) cores. No cores need to be idled. Intel® SST-TF then
clips all other CPU cores max frequency to SKU-defined limit. These are referred to as Low Priority (LP)
cores. Trading off HP and LP cores frequency limits keeps CPU within defined TDP, reliability, and power
budgets. Software can turn on/off Intel® SST-TF and change a core’s priority at runtime. No core mask
dependency and any core can be high priority at any time using classes of service (CLOS) interfaces.

• Helps protect against SW attacks even if the OS, drivers, BIOS or Hypervisor are compromised.
• Increases protections for secrets (data, keys) even when attacker has full control of platform.
• Helps prevent attacks, such as memory bus snooping, memory tampering, and “cold boot”
attacks, against memory contents in RAM.
• Provides an option for hardware-based attestation capabilities to measure and verify valid code
and data signatures.
NOTE: Intel® recommends potential customers do performance testing before committing to a design
using these new processors and avoid relying on previous experience and frequency scaling
projections to estimate expected performance.
These processors assume 70% CPU utilization. The deterministic base frequency rating is only applicable
for VM workloads. Other workloads may see throttling.
NOTE: Intel® recommends potential customers do performance testing before committing to a design
using these new processors and avoid relying on previous experience and frequency scaling
projections to estimate expected performance.
The -U model numbers all share identical cores & frequencies to their standard SKU offerings. These
processors will only be supported in 1-socket configurations. If a customer wishes to upgrade from the -U
1-socket parts to a standard 2-socket part, the “U” 1-socket part must be removed & replaced with 2 x 2-
socket standard processors.
These processors assume 70% CPU utilization and have lower DDR4 frequencies to optimize TDPs. The
deterministic base frequency rating is only applicable for VM workloads. Other workloads may see
throttling. They offer SST Performance Profile allowing to select lower TDPs than comparable processors.
NOTE: Intel® recommends potential customers do performance testing before committing to a design
using these new processors and avoid relying on previous experience and frequency scaling
projections to estimate expected performance.
