A Detailed Lesson Plan in MATHEMATICS 6

I. Objective
A. Content Standard
The students demonstrates understanding of rate and speed, and of area and
surface area of plane and solid/space figures.
B. Performance Standard
The students should be able to apply knowledge of speed, area, and surface
area of plane and solid/space figures in mathematical problem and real-life
situations.
C. Learning Competency
At the end of this discussion at least 80% of the learners should be able to:
 calculate the speed, distance and time
 analyze the problem situation
 Solve problems involving average rate and speed

II. CONTENT
Solving Problems Involving Average Rate and Speed
III. Learning Resources
1. Textbook pages/ Reference
21st Century Mathletes Teachers Manual page 100-102

I. Evaluation
A. Write the correct answer ANSWER KEY:
1. It is the quantity measures or measurable A.
period during which an action, process, or 1. Time
condition exists or continues. 2. Speed
2. It is a scalar quantity that refers to “how 3. Distance
fast an object is moving”. 4. Speedometer
3. It is the total length between two positions. 5. Kilometer, meter, miles.
4. It is an instrument on vehicles dashboard 6. Hour, second, minute
indicating its speed 7. Km/h, m/sec, km/min
5. Give atleast 1 unit used in distance. B.
6. Give atleast 1 unit used in time. 1. 4h
7. Give atleast 1 unit used in speed. 2. 700 km
B. Solve the following problems 3. 18 km
1. A bus travels with a constant speed of 80 4. 25 h
km/h. How long will it take to travel a 5. 12 km/h
distance of 320 kilometers? 6. 225 km
2. A car traveling at an average speed of 100 7. 270 km/h
km/h made the trip to a certain town in 7 8. 217.5 km
hours. What is the total distance traveled
by the car?
3. Ernesto drives his car for 2 ¼ hours with a
speed of 80 kilometrs per hour in going to
town. What is the total distance traveled by
him?
4. Jane drives at an average speed of 60
kilometers per hour on a distance of 150
kilometers. How long does it her to cover
this distance?
5. You rode your bike 24 kilometers and
traveled at approximately 2 hours. What is
your average speed?
6. Teddy travels from Manila to Zambales
every Saturday for the weekend. The trip
took 3.5 hours and he traveled at an
average rate of 75 kph. How many
kilometers does he travel?
7. A train travels a distance of 675 kilometers
in 2.5 hours. What is its speed?
8. A biker had an average speed of 30kph for
3.5 hours going up the right side of the hill
and had an average speed of 45 kph for 2.5
hours going down at the left side of the
