TENSES

1. SIMPLE PRESENT
 Digunakan untuk menunjukkan kebiasaan umum (general), keadaan dan fakta yang
terjadi saat ini.
 Formula
(+) Subject + Verb-s/es + Complement
ex : I study hard for the examination.
(-) Subject + (is,am,are)(do,does) + not + Complement
ex : He doesn’t study hard for the examination.
(?) Do/Does + Subject + V1 + Complement?
Ex: Does he study hard for the examination?
 Note: always, often, every, never, normally, usually, sometimes, seldom.

2. SIMPLE PRESENT CONTINOUS


 Digunakan untuk menunjukkan kejadian yang sedang berlangsung.
 Formula
(+) Subject + (is,am,are) + V-ing + Complement
ex: She is singing in the bathroom.
(-) Subject + (is,am,are) + not + Complement
Ex: They aren’t feeling good.
(?) Is,am,are + Subject + V-ing + Complement?
ex : Are they feeling good right now?
 Note : at the moment, just now, now, right now, listen, look.

3. SIMPLE PAST
 Digunakan untuk menunjukkan kejadian di masa lampau.
 Formula
(+) Subject + Verb2 + Complement
ex: She stayed in the village last month.
(-) Subject + (did)(was,were) not + Verb1 + Complement
ex: They didn’t stay in the village last month.
(?) Did,was,were + Subject + Verb1 + Complement
ex: Did I stay in the village last month.
 Note : last year, last month, yesterday.

4. SIMPLE PRESENT FUTURE


 Digunakan untuk menunjukkan kejadian atau suatu keadaan di masa depan.
 Formula
(+) Subject + will/be going to + Verb1 +
Complement
ex: We will go to Bali tomorrow
(-) Subject + will not/be not going to + Verb1 + Complement
ex: I am not going to go Bali tomorrow.
(?) Will + Subject + Verb1 + Complement?
(?) Be + Subject + Going to + Verb1 + Complement?
ex: Am I going to go Bali tomorrow?
 Note : next, tomorrow, five days later

5. SIMPLE PRESENT PERFECT


 Digunakan untuk menunjukkan kejadian yang telah selesai dan menekankan pada
hasilnya.
 Formula
(+) Subject + has/have + Verb3 + Complement
ex : I have finished my job.
(-) Subject + has/have + not + Verb3 + Complement
ex : He hasn’t finished his job.
(?) Has/have + Subject + Verb3 + Complement?
ex : Has she finished her job?
