curiosity in life. In that way, it could help him
to further his knowledge and make sense of
the world. It could develop his key skills in
how to solve problems or answer things by
himself. (Answer may vary)

This picture shows that through the use of
technology we learn and acquire more
knowledge and information from it. And this
picture shows that through the guidance of
teachers we learn a lot, and help us to
improve and correct our mistakes (Answer
may vary)

❖ Structured Inquiry & Controlled Inquiry
Structured inquiry- it let's the students
investigate or understand the questions that
their teacher presented through step by step
guidelines. And controlled inquiry- the
teacher provides several essential questions
and let the students explore it.

❖ Guided Inquiry & Free inquiry Guided inquiry -In this type of inquiry,
teachers help students use their own
language for constructing knowledge by
active listening and questioning. And free
inquiry - students are free to choose what
topic they want to investigate or to
understand. It is a policy of allowing the
•students that all their points of view about

Nice idea Student E. Student Q, please stand. Ask Ma’am
•If you have a question, what will you do? •

We ask to obtain the answer.

Yes’ Ma’am
Great, now class based on your observation,
•the thing that I am doing right now, which is

asking questions do you consider it as
“inquiry”?

•Good job, inquiry is the process of asking

questions, therefore what I am doing right
now is an example of inquiry.

We obtain knowledge and information by
inquiring. That is why it is called inquiry based
I think Ma’am they are all the same. (Answer
learning
may vary)

What is the relationship between inquiry
based learning and research based learning?
Are they similar or not? Student T. •

Nice idea Student T, well when we have a
question, we tend to ask or make some
research. Therefore, we can also obtain
information through research. That is why it is
called Research based learning. There is a comparison between the old and
the new car (Answer may vary)

Now, class I want you to focus in this second Yes, because we tend to improve ourselves
picture that was used in the activity. What (Answer may vary)
•does the picture depicts? •

Yes. That means there is a development from

(The students will listen attentively)
the old one, to the recent one. Student J, do
you believe that through inquiry, we can •

develop?
Because of the questioning mind of the •
people the society evolves or develops. That
is why inside the classroom it is expected that
there would be lots of inquiry in order for the
teacher to facilitate the learnings of the child.

• According to Future Jobs Report three out of

the 10 skills needed by the child are:
❖ Complex Problem Solving
❖ Critical thinking and
❖ Creativity
• Okay, now Student Y, during your senior high •Yes Ma’am
school days, did you experience having
research paper?

Yes Ma’am
• And is it an example of inquiry based learning •
and research based learning? Student U

Speaking, Listening, Writing, and Reading

• And what are the macro skills that was •
targeted? Student I

• That is why the K-12 curriculum make use of

this type of learning in relation to the
prescribed curriculum to enhance the skills of
the student.

• Just as I have said a while ago IBI can provide

students with opportunities to learn about the
current issues and can contribute to the
development by sharing and debating
personal experiences.

• That is why we have these 4 types of inquiry.

1. Structured Inquiry
2. Controlled inquiry Structured inquiry lets the students follow
3. Guided inquiry the lead of the teacher as the entire class
4. Free inquiry engages

• Now, let us look your answers in the activity Controlled inquiry the teacher chooses
•topics and identifies the resources that the

questions and students design the product
or solution

• Student A, please read the guided inquiry •

• Student A, please read the free inquiry •
their own topics without any reference to a
prescribed outcome.

• Researchers make a lot of inquiry and that

enable them to provide solutions to the
emerging issues that affects the society just
like what you did in your senior high school.
To facilitate the learnings of the child.
•He/she guides the learners.
• Student S, what do you think is the role of the
teacher in IBL?
Prior knowledge and capacity

we proceed?

• Okay great work everyone I hope you have
learned something with our lesson today. It is the process of asking questions

Inquiry Based Learning

• What are the four types of inquiry? Student H

• Student G, what is structured inquiry?

• The students follow the lead of the teacher
• Student J what is controlled inquiry? •The teacher chooses the topics and identifies
the resources

• Student D, what is guided inquiry? The teacher chooses topics or questions and
student designs the product

• Great, what is the last type of inquiry and what Free Inquiry. The students are allowed to
do you mean by that? choose their own topics.

to finish

• After completing, I will select a student to
present their work in front of the class
• Okay time is up. Student K, please come in
