During flow testing of pressure-reducing valves, care should be taken in making connections to
drain risers. An air gap should be maintained in order to prevent cross connection to nonpotable
water sources.

the fire department connection is dependent on several variables such as the performance of the
water supply at the source, the distance from the source to the location of the inlets, the
diameter of the hose used, the size of the fire department pumper, and the required water
volume and pressure at the base of the standpipe riser(s).
