PROBLEM SET 1

1. Find the intercepts (x-intercept and y-intercept) and plot each of the
following equations:

A. y = −3x − 4. B. 3x − 2y = 6
C. y = −3x + 6 D. 4x − 3 = 2y
E. 4y = 2x – 1

2. Determine the distance and mid-point between the two points given
below:

F. (2,1) and (-1,3) G. (0,-2) and (2,-1)

H. (-2,1) and (-3,0) I. (2,0) and (0,3)
J. (-1,-1) and (-2,4)

3. Find the distance between the two endpoints using the

distance formula. Also locate the midpoint between the two
points.
4. Given the graph of the rectangle shown and the coordinates of
its vertices, prove that the diagonals of the rectangle are of
equal length. Also determine the coordinates of mid points of
each diagonal.

5. Solve the following equations:

2x + 7 = 19.

4(x−3) + 12 = 15−5(x + 6).

6. Find the slope of a line that passes through the points:

A. (2, −1) and (−5, 3). B. (2, 4) and (−5, 4).
C. (2, 1) and (3, 2). D. (1, 1) and (5, -3).
E. (2, −2) and (2, 4).
7. Find the equation of the line passing through the points (3, 4)
and (0, −3). Write the final equation in slope-intercept form.
8. Find the equation of the line with m = −6 and passing through
the point (14,-2). Write the final equation in slope-intercept form.
9. Find the equation of the line passing through the given points:
(1, −3) and (1, 4).

11. State whether the given are parallel, perpendicular, or neither:

A. 3y = − 4x + 3 and 3x − 4y = 8.
B. 2y − x = 10 and 2y = x + 4.
C. X+y = 5 and 3x-2y =10
