Handout #1 Planning Lesson – Lesson Plan components

Component Description
1.   Class Name a.   The learner goal for the lesson. What the teacher wants the
students to be able to do by the end of the lesson.
2.   Lesson Number
b.   Notes about students, previous knowledge, ability levels, how
3.   Date they work together, their strengths/weaknesses.
4.   Time c.   The lesson stage being taught i.e. ESA, PPP or TTT.
d.   How long each stage is intended to last.
5.   Aims
e.   This is usually the grade or level of the class.
6.   Class profile f.   Where the lesson fits within the sequence of lessons in the course.
7.   Language focus g.   The day, month and year of the lesson.
8.   Anticipated problems h.   The time the class starts and finishes and duration of the lesson.
i.   Base on the anticipated problems these would be ways in which
9.   Possible solutions
to overcome such problems if they arise in the class.
10.  Materials j.   What the teacher needs to deliver the class i.e. coursebook,
11.  Stage worksheets, games, PowerPoint etc.
k.   What the language point is of the lesson: grammar, lexis skills.
12.  Procedure
l.   The aims of each procedure stage (teaching aims/ learner aims)
13.  Timing m.   What the teacher will do and how, and the intended students
14.  Student Interaction responses.
n.   Problems that may occur in the lesson: difficulty with the
