Ans: The definition of History is the study of past events, particularly in human affairs also
history is the study of change over time, and it covers all aspects if human society such as
Political, Social, Economic, Scientific, Technological, Medical, Cultural, Intellectual, Religious
and Military developments are all part of history.
2. Historians, archaeologists and others organize information on the Maya into three (3) main
periods. What are those periods called and which years are connected to those periods?
Ans: The History of the Maya Civilization was divided into three principal periods which were
the Pre-classic (C. 2000 BC- 250 AD), The Classic Period (250 AD to 900 AD) and the Post-
Classic Period (900 AD to 1500AD).
3. The Maya Civilization could have been found in which parts of this hemisphere? (Name the
areas)
Ans: The Maya civilization could have been found in Mexico, Belize, Guatemala Honduras, and
El Salvador.
4.What is the name and where is one of the oldest Maya communities of Belize?
Ans: One of the Oldest Maya communities of Belize is the Cuello in the Orange Walk District of
Belize.
5.Give the names of three (3) of the most powerful Maya Centers in Belize in early times.
Ans: The three most powerful Maya Centers in Belize early times are La Milpa, Lamanai, Nim
Li Punit.
6. Two trading points of the Maya in Belize of early times were Ambergris Cay and Moho Cay.
7.Give the names of the provinces that were under the control of the Maya in early times and
their locations.
Ans: The name of the provinces that were under the control of the Maya in early times are:
Chaktemal, Dzuluinicob and Manche Chol located in the southern Maya highlands, the central
lowlands, and the northern lowlands.
8.List and describe three (3) different ways in which the Maya resisted Spanish control of the
Maya lives.
Ans: The Maya resistance included f a c e t o f a c e c o m b a t , o t h e r i n s t a n c e s t h e M a y a
would burn down the Catholic churches built by the Spanish to force them
to convert to Christianity and in some cases the Maya would leave the
area that fell under direct Spanish rule and migrate to places not so
directly controlled by Spanish.

Ans: Two ways the Spanish used to destroy the Mayan were with disease and a single solider
having swinepox.

Ans: Two ways the Maya plant their food was with the Slash and Burn.

Ans: Columbus was born in the Italian seaport of Genoa in 1451.

13.Where was Columbus heading to in 1492 and why?


Ans: In 1492 Columbus was heading to India because he wanted to find a new route to get there.

Ans: The two countries that signed the Treaty of Tordesillas was Spain and Portugal.

15.What does the term AD mean?


Ans: AD stands for Anno Domini, Latin for “in the year of the Lord”

Ans: BC stands for “before Christ”.
17.What does the term BCE mean?
Ans: BCE stands for “before the common (or current) era”.

18.The Greater Antilles include which Island countries?


Ans: The Greater Antilles, made up of the larger islands to the north and west, include Cuba, the
Cayman Islands, Jamaica, Hispaniola (Haiti on the west and the Dominican Republic on the east)
and Puerto Rico.

Ans: 4 countries of the Lesser Antilles are:

Ans: Two Indigenous people who were flourished in the Caribbean are the Taíno and Inuit.
