Title : WORK INSTRUCTION FOR OPERATION OF WATER PUMPS.

1.0 Purpose : This work instruction (WI) has been prepared to establish safe and standard
work practices for operation of Water Pumps.

2.0 Scope : This work instruction is applicable in Pump House in Pellet Plant-1.

5.3 Details of Activity:

5.3.1 Inspection of pump:


5.3.1.1 Ensure motor and pump is properly coupled.
5.3.1.2 Ensure no leakage from suction and discharge pipe line
5.3.1.3 Ensure the feeder of the pump is healthy.
5.3.1.4 Ensure healthiness of pump from LCS/DCS.
5.3.1.5 Ensure sufficient respective tank/sump level.
5.3.1.6 Ensure both suction is open and discharge valve is closed. (Remove the air from
pump casing through air vent valves)
5.3.1.7 Ensure proper guarding.

5.3.2 Starting the pumps:


5.3.2.1 After all of the above checks, start the pump from remote/local selection.
5.3.2.2 Once pump started check for the gland leakage.
5.3.2.3 Slowly open discharge valve till the required flow is achieved
5.3.2.4 Check the pump frequently for abnormal sound, smoke, bearing & casing
temperatures, leakages etc.

5.3.3 Stopping the pumps:


5.3.3.1 Inform area operator and stop the pump
5.3.3.2 Close Discharge valve completely.
5.3.3.3 Apply emergency switch, ensure LOTO if any maintenance and or electrical work
is carried out.

5.3.4 Heat exchanger changeover:


5.3.4.1 Gradually open the inlet valve of standby heat exchanger slowly.
5.3.4.2 After few minutes open the discharge valve gradually.
5.3.4.3 Check for any leakage in the plates, if no leakages then close the inlet valve of
working heat exchanger.
5.3.4.4 After few minutes close the discharge valve of previous heat exchanger
