My name is Ashley Hernandez and I’m a current sophomore at Rancho San Juan
Highschool. I love orchids, spending time with family, and I really enjoy listening to music.
Although these are some of my favorite hobbies/interests, I would like to work on myself.
Personally, my socializing since I can be a very blunt person or shy at times. That makes me a
unique person compared to others.
Firstly, I’d like to state that my personality describes me inside and outside of me. I really
enjoy watching criminal documentaries and criminal minds. Well anything that has to do with
law, crime, and justice. From watching crime related stuff it motivated and encouraged me to
want a career in law enforcement. Besides that I really enjoy the moments I get to spend in life
with family and friends. One of my favorite moments is the fourth of July since we all are
outside and I get to see the stars and moon that appear outside. It may be a weird hobby, but it
relaxes me knowing that I have guardians in my stars. Also, I get to admire the beautyness of the
moon and the various types of stars there are. Afterwards, we have my goals for the future/this
year. I would like to make the soccer team since I was in it last year. I wasn’t the best or worst
player, but I have made little improvements on the way I play the sport. I am determined to
continue playing since it makes me happy and soccer made a happy impact on me. I really loved
my team from last year and we are having most of my old teammates. Although I want to play
soccer, I want to try to join some clubs. Some of the clubs from the roster list caught my eye. I
want to try to join the culinary club because I relish cooking and baking. As well as the cancer
club I want to join it since I want to know more about the illness and how it affects people
physically and mentally.
Next, we have math which is a very challenging subject for me. I say challenging because
it's not hard or easy. I struggle with certain problems, but at the same time I don’t really have a
hard time learning on how to make it easier. It's hard to describe, but if I am taught a specific
way then I won’t have as much trouble to figure it out. Another thing is collaborating with others
is a big help for me since doing classwork can be tough at times and working with partners can
bring new ideas or fresh thoughts on how to solve problems.

Finally, my past math experiences were alright. At times math would be very difficult in
certain situations or grade levels. I had certain issues with teachers just handing the work and not
explaining it. From my point of view, it just made them look bad and made us not want to do the
work since we know how challenging and difficult it would be to complete the assignments.
Also, when we asked for help they wouldn’t help us at all. They were getting paid to teach us
and they just handed the assignments or tests that we didn’t know how to do. I learn best by
asking questions, getting advice from teachers, and working with others.
This year has been overwhelming and interesting so far to my liking. To my liking this
experience with coming back to school was overwhelming since it was hard to adjust. I hope the
pandemic eases and decreases in cases, so we can go back to school and our regular everyday
lives.
