LET A MILLION FLOWERS BLOOM PROJECT
In accordance to the Office of the Undersecretary of Administration (OUA)

Memo 00-0521-0171 dated May 24, 2021 the “Let a Million Flower Bloom” project for
the School Year 2021-2022 in Dingalan National High School was launched. This
project aims to uplift the spirit of learners, parents, and teachers, as well as to show
gratitude and appreciation to teachers for all the hard work they have shown amidst
the COVID-19 pandemic to continue the delivery of quality education to learners.
The Dingalan National High School Yes-O adviser Mrs. Rachelle F. Lazaro
and the SIGA Coordinator Ms. Kylie Ann R. Vilar, together with the Science teachers
and the school principal, Mrs. Minerva C. Puno led the implementation of the said
project. The implementation started with the launching of the program last July 13,
2021. Right after the ceremony, the faculty and staff of the school began to gradually
develop the proposed area. The initial evaluation was done on the last week of July.
The second, third and final evaluation will be conducted within the school year 2021-
2022. The conduct of Brigada Eskwela helped in the said project. With the support
of the parents, students and other stakeholders geared this project towards success.
The project team was overwhelmed with the Bayanihan spirit they have witnessed
throughout the whole duration of the project (July 13 - Sept 3, 2021).
The area used for this project was 50 sq. meters and is located in front of the
administrative building of the said school. This spot is perfect for it is near the school
entrance. Different stakeholders such as Religious groups, fraternities, government
agencies, parents and students supported the project. There were groups who
shoveled soil; the other group painted the fence, the old tires and the façade; some

of them watered the plants; there were gardeners, carpenters, mason, and there
were also private individuals who lend their vehicles to collect decorative stones. It
was funded through the School’s MOOE (Php5,000.00) and through School Funds
(Php5,000.00). Aside from the Bayanihan support from our stakeholders, they also
donated Cash and other Materials that were used in the said project. The school
collected a total amount of Php 3060.00 from different donors together with the
plants and garden rocks.
The flowering plants planted in the garden were as follows:
1. Scientific Name: Lantana camara

Common Name: Lantana
Symbolic Meaning: The lantana flower is generally associated with rigor.*
2. Scientific Name: Symphyotrichum novae-angliae
Common Name: New England Aster
Symbolic Meaning: Purple asters symbolizes loyalty and wisdom.
3. Scientific Name: Petunia supertunia vista
Common Name: Fuchsia Petunia
Symbolic Meaning: Petunias symbolize feeling of comfort, happiness, and
persevering.
4. Scientific Name: Gomphrena globos
Common Name: Botones or Common globe amaranth
Symbolic Meaning: Gomphrna is a symbol of immortality and endless
love.
5. Scientific Name: Dahlia pinnata
Common Name: Corn Bride Dahlia
Symbolic Meaning: White dahlia flowers is associated with pureness and
innocence.

6. Scientific Name: Ixora coccinea
Common Name: Santan
Symbolic Meaning: Ixora represents passion and increased sexuality.
7. Scientific Name: Myosotis sylvatica

Common Name: Forget-Me-Not
Symbolic Meaning: Forget-me-nots symbolizes true love and respect.
8. Scientific Name: Catharanthus roseus
Common Name: Chichirica
Symbolic Meaning: Catharanthus roseus symbolizes progress.
9. Scientific Name: Zephyranthes rosea
Common Name: Rain Lily
Symbolic Meaning: Zephyranthes symbolizes rebirth, new beginnings and
big expectations. It can also symbolize happiness and joy.
10. Scientific Name: Hydrangea macrophylla
Common Name: Mil flores
Symbolic Meaning: In Japan, the flower is associated with heartfelt
emotion, understanding and apology.
11. Scientific Name: Rosa floribunda
Common Name: Rose
Symbolic Meaning: The rose symbolizes femininity, beauty, love, and
romance.
12. Scientific Name: Helianthus annuus
Common Name: Sunflower
Symbolic Meaning: The Sunflower, is a symbol of adoration, loyalty and
longevity which is also referred to as the “happy” plant.
13. Scientific Name: Torenia fournieri

happiness.

17. Scientific Name: Pseuderanthemum laxiflorum
Common Name: Starlet
Symbolic Meaning: This flower is also called shooting star which is a
symbol of good luck.
18. Scientific Name: Impatiens walleriana
Common Name: Bituing marikit
Symbolic Meaning: Impatiens carry a symbolic meaning of motherly love
but in some cultures it represents impatience.

Common Name: Shrimp plant
Symbolic Meaning: It is believed to symbolize an integration of
knowledge and spirituality.
The project was a success in our school. There was a dramatic change
in the entrance where everyone who visits the school gives a positive
feedback, especially the parents, PTA officers and local officials. The project
will be implemented throughout the school year and in the following years.
