WIRING REGULATIONS AND SAFETY

Question 1

a) Describe briefly THREE (3) general reasons for initial verification.

b) Identify the sequence of ELEVEN (11) methods of test that shall be carried out during initial
verification as stated in the 713-02 to 713-12 regulation.

c) List FIVE (5) physical inspections under regulation 712-01-03 that shall be included for
installation and erection.

Question 2

State FIVE (5) methods of wiring installation that are commonly used for wiring systems in
Malaysia.

Question 3

MS IEC 60364 is a total adoption of a family international standards developed by the IEC TC
64 which stated that the standards contain the rules and guidelines for the design and erection of
electrical installations in buildings.

a) State SIX (6) sections MS IEC 60364 intends to cover electrical installations.

b) Determine the methods as adequate for providing protection against indirect contact as state
in the standards.

c) Determine the methods as adequate for providing protection against direct contact as state in
the standards.

a) Describe the purpose of fault level analysis in design procedure for LV Distribution system.

b) State four major considerations for LV electrical standards.

c) Describe the benefit of standardization.

d) Draw and list the Regulatory framework for LV Electrical Installation of Building in
Malaysia.

Question 5

a) In 2008, Energy Commission has published the “Guidelines for Electrical Wiring in
Residential Buildings”. Explain THREE (3) main purposes of the guidelines.

b) State the FIVE (5) safety tests to be presented in Form G and Form H as stated in (Regulation
14) Electricity Supply Act 1990.

c) List FOUR (4) tasks that should be undertaken by the site engineer or contractor before
carrying out any wiring in order to ensure the work is tidy, neat and safe to be used as stated
in Energy Commission guidelines.

Brief the history of adaptation Low Voltage (LV) Electrical Installations of Buildings in
Malaysia to MS IEC / IEC 60364 and Code of Practice (COP), MS 1979:2007.

a) State the six-step safety method in electrical safety procedures.
b) State the reasons for the occurrence of electrical accidents and ways to prevent them.
c) List the safety precautions that should be taken during electrical installation.
d) List the safety precautions that should be taken during handling tools or machines.
