Customs at Mexico City airport

I travel to Mexico City. Upon arriving at the airport there is frequently a long line waiting
to go through Immigration. (I have waited for as long as an hour.) On the other hand,
customs inspection has been virtually non-existent. You are generally just waved through.
It has been years since I have been asked to open my luggage. Upon my arrival here two
days ago the situation was exactly the opposite. There was no wait at all to go through
Immigration (most likely due to the reduced number of tourists), but it seemed that
everyone was having their luggage inspected at Customs. I do not know if Customs was on
some sort of special alert that day, or if this is the new normal. It was not just a cursory
inspection either. The customs officer thoroughly searched my suitcase, backpack and
camera case. He even asked to look in the passport pouch that I carry around my neck. He
also asked a lot of questions. I was a bit worried since my suitcase was full of gifts for my
Mexican friends. I was afraid that he was going to say that I was bringing in an excess of
foreign merchandise not for personal use. Fortunately, there was no problem, although it
sounded as if the man ahead of me was having a discussion with the inspector over the
fact that he had two laptops with him. As I said, I do not know if this was a special
situation, but it certainly was an out of the ordinary experience.

Cancun (google, 2023)Upon landing in the city, you
will be able to pick
up your luggage at the baggage claim areas. It must be presented with an international
traveller’s declaration after the designated persons in customs will inspect your luggage.

When you arrive at the boarding area, you must leave your belongings in a tray, as well as
accessories, belts, or any metallic object. When the green light comes, you may take your
belongings, leave the airport or enter a waiting room (in case of departing flights). When
you return to your place of origin, you will receive a Customs form that you will have to fill
out before you will go through a short inspection where you will have to wait for the
green light to appear before continuing. In case a red light appears, you will have to wait
for an inspection.

This is one of the most common questions travellers ask before visiting Cancun.

You can bring canned, bottled, or labelled food, medicines, clothes, and valuable items
under permission. All things will go to customs for inspection. At the end of the
examination, you will be able to leave with your personal belongings. If you have not
passed the inspection test, you will have to remain at the airport until the pass is validated
or your belongings are retained. This happens when entering or leaving the country.

Suppose you wish to carry medication, food, or any substance. In that case, it must be
prescribed by a certified doctor. You must have a prescription or letter of permission
stating that you require the medication or product for your well-being and carrying only
the necessary amount you will need during your stay in Mexico. In case of carrying
valuables, you must register them as yours before boarding the plane. We recommend
taking these items in your carry-on baggage. If you want to know more about the baggage
regulations for entering Mexico, you can consult the Mexican consulates (google, 2023)

How To Hire a Customs Broker from Mexico in Canada?

Because customs brokers leverage electronic communications both with clients and with
Canada Border Services Agency and other government agencies that control the

importation and exportation of goods, your customs broker does not need to
have an actual office at the port of entry through which your goods enter or exit Canada.

Does your firm have a specific area of expertise? How do you provide this information to
prospective clients? Can you provide references from current clients with the same or
similar imports to mine?

Do you have experience with, and current knowledge of, the goods that will be imported by
my business? What do you require from me to begin development of my database records?
How do you let your clients know about regulatory changes that affect their goods?

How will we work together to develop a compliance plan to clarify our responsibilities and
minimize our exposure to administrative monetary penalties (AMPS)? And how will we
work together to ensure CBSA receives the electronic pre-arrival cargo information
needed to meet eManifest requirements, including the electronic transmission of advance
importer data? Do you offer trade compliance seminars or webinars for clients?

Will a single person be assigned to my account? Can I reach a live person 24/7/365?

relating to certain goods and will hold sellers accountable should they try to bypass the
rules.

To trade internationally, you’ll need to submit documents and information relating to the
goods in transit, commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin and final destination.
Many governments use the customs clearance process in order to collect revenue, analyse
trade between countries and fight crime. All active trading ports around the world will put
cargo through a rigorous customs clearance process but the rules, regulations and tariffs
will differ from country to country.
