DEC 17 ,1990, 6:39 pm on a cold rainy evening, the streets of …………..

was surprisingly
crowded. Two boys(Yuri and Arthur) were walking back home from their school. They were
talking about how fast their 9th finals was closing in and that they hadn't even started
preparing for it. Suddenly, there was huge roar in the sky, the rain was getting bigger, wind
started blowing fiercely and then it came. A single bolt of lightning with a sound that was so
loud that you could feel shivers run down through your spine, hits Yuri. No one knew what
had happened apart from Arthur who saw Yuri falling on the ground. Rain was still pouring
down as if the lightning never happened. People around Yuri slowly realized what had
happened and started screaming. There was a moment of silence in the crowd, the thought
of calling an ambulance didn't even cross anyone's mind for couple of minutes as they were
in utter state of shock from what had just happened. Few minutes passes by and someone
from the crowd finally calls an ambulance. Arthur still in utter disbelief is shaking and
sweating profoundly. The first thought that came into his mind was not of his friend, but
that it could have been him. The ambulance arrived shortly after, still hoping that Yuri could
be saved. Yuri along with Arthur were placed inside the ambulance and were taken to the
hospital. Yuri was still alive but his breathing had become extremely faint. And just before
they reached the hospital, Yuri passed away. Yuri's parents were devastated but even more
than they, Arthur was emotionally destroyed. He felt as though if he had called an
ambulance few minutes sooner, Yuri would have been saved. This guilt combined with the
fact that he in his teenage years witnessed a death right in front of his eyes would haunt
him and make him depressed for the rest of his life.
Since this incident, Arthur stopped coming out of his house, he even stopped going to his
school. Going to the crowded places made him feel like everyone was staring at him and
that everyone would blame him for Yuri's death. His parents who were both lawyers were
both very worried about their only child and his education so they made a deal with the
school that the school would allow him to give his final examinations and wouldn't care
about his attendance at all. They thought Arthur would come back to his senses with time,
but to their surprise this was just the beginning.
Since this was early 90's, internet was still in its very early days. Since Arthur didn't have
much to distract himself to within the walls of a room, he chose studying as his only
distraction from all the emotional distress he was feeling. He would even study the law
books that were present in the house. In this way, time slowly passed and the final
examination were starting tomorrow. Still afraid of the people's stares, Arthur decided to
wear a mask while going to give his examination. This would soon turn into his habit and he
would never leave his home without a mask. Hence in the future, a nickname would be
given to Arthur, THE MASKED EVIL.
10 Years Later, 2000 , A crime scene In ……
Police were investigating the crime scene and suddenly a skinny man in his late mid 20's
who looks malnourished entered the vicinity. Police quickly reacted to him and asked him
what his name was. The conversation went like this:
Police: (shouting) WHO ARE YOU?
MAN: (in a low lifeless voice) I am a detective.
Police: (shouting) WHAT IS YOUR NAME AND SHOW US YOUR CARD.
MAN: My name is Arthur. (He spoke as he handed his card)
(As soon as the police personnel saw the card, they immediately did a salute as a sign of
respect to the most renowned detective within the country.)
Within the last 10 years Arthur was able to become a detective, solve many unsolved cases,
save many lives and receive so many rewards. One could say that Arthur had everything one
could ask for like money, fame, respect and power. But even after achieving so many things,
he wasn't able to completely overcome the guilt as he could never escape that the people
were pointing fingers at him for Yuri's death. This was the peak of the Arthur's career, and
around this time Arthur met a girl named Aria. They fell in love with each other and married.
They then had their first child who they named Ace. Arthur slowly started to forget about
the guilt of the past and finally started to smile a bit. Arthur was living happily until a certain
message would appear in his phone from an unknown number.
July 7 2000, it was raining heavily which was common for the rainy season. At exactly 5:00
PM, a message appeared in Arthur's phone. Arthur picked up his phone and as soon he read
the notification, his phone fell out of his hand as he stood frozenly in his place. The
notification read "THE DEATH OF YURI was not your fault …" After some time, Arthur with
his trembling hands picked up his phone to check what the message meant. He opened up
the message, and the message went "THE DEATH OF YURI was not your fault. You don't
deserve to have such huge burden over your shoulder for something you didn't even did. I
know it will not bring Yuri back but if you truly wish to blame someone for his death then I
will tell you. Come meet me at 11:00 PM at ……." Arthur thought of this as some sort of
prank message until he read the last time, which stated "And before you think of this as
some prank message, let me give you a hint. How common do you think raining is in the cold
season (dec is winter season) and to top it all off, think of how rare it truly is for lighting to
occur in winter seasons).
Arthur was once again frozen in his place for another 5 minutes. He kept thinking to himself,
even though it was extremely rare, lightning could occur at winter weather. There is always
that fraction of a percent of probability that something could happened. So he decided that
there was not enough evidence backing up the claims made by the unknown person from
unknown number to actually meet that person. But all those years of guilt and emotional
distress even caused his genius brain to overthink if it was actually true. So at last even
though de decided not to go, he went to meet that person.
11:00 PM, Meeting the Unknown person
(Arthur reaches the place and open its door. It's dark, wet and smelly but he still goes in. He
could only see the darkness once he ventured inside.)
Arthur: HELLLOOOOOOO~(multiple echoes echoing )
Unknown Voice (male): So you have come! I was wondering if you would actually show up.
Arthur: I am here as you requested. So, tell me what that message was all about!
Unknown Voice (male): Why in such hurry? Be patient, and you will get all your answers.
Arthur: ………………
Unknown Voice (male): Let me ask you something, would you be able to forgive and accept
yourself if I told you that Yuri's death was caused by some other person, not you?
(As soon as Arthur heard those words, his inner voice yelled YES, I WILL FINALLY BE ABLE TO
POINT MY FINGER AT THAT PERSON AND BE FREE FROM THIS GUILT. But he couldn't say all
these things so he simply shook his head as if he was saying YES)
(ALL THE LIGHTS STARS TURNING ON ONE AFTER THE ANOTHER, UNTIL YOU COULD FINALLY
SEE THE FACE OF THE UNKNOWN PERSONS. ARTHUR WAS SURPRISED TO SEE THE FACES OF
YURI'S DAD AND MOM IN FRONT OF HIM)
Arthur: (confused) what is going on?
Yuri's Mom: (sobbing) I am sorry Arthur. You have been suffering all these times just
because of us. Just because we were busy pointing fingers at each other.
Arthur: What do you mean?
Yuri's Dad: I apologize Arthur, I should have accepted my mistake earlier and told you this
much sooner. As you know since we both are government funded scientist, we always work
for the betterment of human by utilizing government funding. The project we were
conducting during 1990 was weather manipulation. We didn't want to do this but the
government forced us. Everything was going perfectly until the last moment when suddenly
a single bolt of lightning was produced out of nowhere. It just so happened that it hit my son
and he died because of it.
(Arthur paused for a second and thought to himself," Government forced you? Who are you
even lying to, YOU DID THIS. And even after all this you are still blaming others for
something you did." Arthur understood something very important that day, "WE HUMANS
ACT VERY STRONG WHEN BLAMING OTHERS BUT ARE VERY WEAK WHEN IT COMES TO
REFLECT ON OURSELVES. WE ARE AFRAID OF ACCEPTING OUR MISTAKES.)
Narrator: (But Arthur didn't even realize that he is doing the same thing, searching for
someone to point his finger too. Being stuck up on one wrong thing and not being able to
accept it and move on. Such hypocrite beings we humans are.)
Yuri's Dad: If you want to blame someone for Yuri's death, stop blaming yourself and blame
the government but please don't do anything about it. Remember my word, you have no
power against the government. And here take this pendrive, it contains all the information
of what I said if you don't trust us. Hope this will help you to move on from that incident.
(Arthur took the pendrive and left without even uttering a single word. He went straight
home and decided to check the pendrive.)
 He was sweating profoundly, his wife Aria and his son Ace were both worried about his
state. As he was told, that pendrive contained all the information about the weather
manipulation project. It was the information that had the potential to topple the entire
current government. He was furious as he had to live in depression his entire life because of
what those bastards in the government did.
S0, he took the evidence to the police and tried to file a case against the government. The
very next day, Arthur was nowhere to be found. He was kidnapped by the government. He
was tortured and was asked to hand over all the evidence. He didn't..
His family were killed, he lost his will to love and was finally fed up with the society. He had
reached a such point where life had no meaning.
The world would come to know that be scared of someone who is a good fighter but be
genuinely afraid by someone who is fed up with the society and has no will of living. He
would be known as the incarnation of evil and hence the name THE MASKED EVIL. He killed
so many innocent people who supported government, he killed people who looked happy.
He terrorized the cities of …… since he was one of the most genius detective even the police
and the army couldn't catch him. No one knows what happened to him, but people believe
that he died and a part of him lives in every human's heart.
There is a saying, THE ONLY THING THAT IS DIFFERENT FROM A HERO AND A VILLIAN IS ONE
WRONG DECISION.
