WHAT IS A COMMUNITY?

A common definition of community emerged as a group of people with

diverse characteristics who are linked by social ties, share common
perspectives, and engage in joint action in geographical locations or
settings.

What Is the Difference between Global and Local Community

“The difference between global and local communities is that one focuses on
connecting globally while the other has a focus on connecting locally”

-Global communities are made up of people from different countries, with the
goal to connect globally. A global community is a community of people from all
over the world, while a local community consists of people who live in a specific
area. The global community encompasses the way people around the world
interact with each other through commerce, information sharing, and online
communities. There are many online l communities, each consisting of members
who’ve something in common.

-Local communities are made up of people who live in the same country and have
a common interest or passion. Community is an important aspect of life for many
people. One way people define their community is by where they live or work.
These communities are often referred to as “local” communities.

Examples of Local Communities-

 An indigenous owned heritage seed and grower company commercializing

newly introduced foods.

 A family business that grows seedlings to plant trees and native plants to
restore parks, floods and wildfires.

 A local designer has projects to develop low-income and homeless housing.

 Agricultural engineer is developing robotic equipment and connected
technologies for farms and greenhouses.

“Community sectors” can mean a number of different things. In some cases, it

describes broad categories – the public and private sectors, for example, referring
respectively to those individuals and organizations that have to do with
government in some way and those that don’t. Sometimes, the term “community
sector” means community-based organizations, institutions, and initiatives, as
opposed to those operated by state government, national or international groups,
or large corporations. In this section when we refer to “community sectors,”
we’re pointing at the various groups that people in the larger community might
be divided into for reasons of common social, political, economic, cultural, or
religious interests. In some cases, membership in a sector may be conscious
(business people as part of the “business sector,” for example.)
