INTRODUCTION

The film focuses on the lives of two men, one rich and one poor, whose lives are unknowingly switched
as part of a test to determine success or failure in these new roles. This film, starring Eddie Murphy and
Dan Aykroyd, depicts the challenges that individuals face as they are suddenly thrust into unforeseen
circumstances for which they lack the understanding and wherewithal to make sense of their new lives.
The film is humorous and enables the viewer to have a greater sense of personal identity and discovery
in order to recognize personal cultural expectations and needs. At the same time, the film supports the
elements of basic survival and the necessity to make decisions on the fly without recognizing the
potential consequences.

It wants to be funny, but it also wants to tell us something about human nature and there are whole
stretches when we forget it's a comedy and get involved in the story.

HIGHLIGHTS - BODY

It is about how the two rich brothers are unable to agree on which of nature and nurture has the
greater impact on a person. They decide to conduct a real-life experiment in which a street-smart
underprivileged man takes the place of their polished and educated managing director. They set their
bet on the experiment and get to work setting it up. They conducted a plan to destroy the life of their
educated manager and they bailed and transformed the street smart man they got arrested. The movie
highlights the difference between the rich and the poor, and how the rich always have the upper hand.
It also highlighted the racism and money hunger of the rich.

At the beginning of the movie, the life between the educated manager and the street smart beggar was
shown and it can be seen how different they run their lives. The educated director was respected at
work and has a stable love life with his fiancé, while the street smart beggar was pretending to be
disabled to gain pity and scam others as a source or mean of survival. When the two met, the educated
person quickly assumed that the beggar was trying to steal his briefcase from him despite only
bumping each other due to his appearance and color since he referred to the beggar as a ‘negro’.
Feeling unfairly judged, the beggar ran inside to escape the police but was unfortunately caught. I
noticed that the arrest of the street smart beggar was somehow the trigger for the brothers to execute a
real life experiment between the director and the beggar.

The experiment of the brothers was a success when they managed to change the street smart beggar’s
image into a well and educated man and turned a polished and educated person into a person who is on
the verge on giving up on life. I was disgusted on how those two rich brothers can easily destroy a
person’s life just for their own pleasure and entertainment. I realized how money driven people are. The
experiment also has its perks since the experience of the street smart beggar and the educated manager
has allowed them to grow into a better version of themselves. For example, the arrogant, racist and
ungrateful educated director changed into a humble and appreciative person with the influence of
the girl prostitute he met who showered him with kindness. The arrogant, mischievous and money
hungry street smart beggar changed into a humble, nice and sympathetic person. The debate
between nature and nurture affects a person which is answered by the movie. Both affect a person’s
individuality. The rotten nature of the two brothers was due to their hunger for money. The street
smart beggar and educated manager made them a better man than they were before due to
their nurture. In my opinion both nurture and nature affect and shape a person for the reason that we
can grow as a person both in nature and nurture.

CONCLUSION

The use of market news, types of orders and market efficiency were discussed in detail and were also
put into application. It showed how every order fulfilled a different purpose, how prices changed due to
individual intervention and how markets functioned in reality. The movie deals with the financial
concepts of “market efficiency” and “insider trading”. It projects how the commodity market functions
as a semi-strong efficient market where all the historical market data and other publicly available
information are factored in the prices of different commodity futures but the private information is what
helps a trader achieve exceptional return or a return more than the market return.

The movie also covers the important concept of demand and supply that drag the prices in a stock
market. The concept entails the necessity of having a buyer, a seller, a trading platform and a mutually
agreed-upon price to complete a transaction. Moreover, it covers the traditional style of trading wherein
all deals were done manually on a trading floor with a concept named ‘open outcry’.

However, what this movie fails to project is the unethical and illicit nature of using such private
information to make exceptional gains and the judicial charges such actions bear in the present world.
