Conservation Model Theory

The core of the conservation model is to improve a person’s physical and emotional well-being by
considering the four domains of conservation

Four conservation principles:

(1) conservation of energy - based on nursing interventions to conserve through a deliberate

decision to balance activity and the person’s available energy.
Example: availability of adequate rest; sustenance pf adequate nutrition

(2) conservation of structural integrity - basis for nursing interventions to limit the amount of
tissue involvement.
Example: Assist patient on ROM exercise; preservation pf patient's personal hygiene

(3) conservation of personal integrity - based on nursing interventions that permit the individual to
make decisions for himself or participate in the decisions.
Example: Acknowledge and preserve patient's space needs

(4) conservation of the social integrity - based on nursing interventions to preserve the client’s
interactions with the family and the social system they belong to.
Example: help the individual to preserve his/her place in a family, community, and society
