ATP 106: LEGAL PRACTICE MANAGEMENT-
PROJECT WORK 2022-2023 FOR ALL CLASSES

INSTRUCTIONS ON ANSWERING THE QUESTIONS.


Required:
• Firms should have distinctly different work even though the question is similar.
• This is a participatory course work and every member must comply with meeting
attendance requirement.
• The purpose of this course is to learn and test your understanding of the course
hence you are free to consult the subject lecturers and seek any support you may
need to execute the assignment
• Introduction - cover page (see details in the project Work guidelines 2022), list of
names of firm members and signature against each name, title declaration,
acknowledgment and table of contents.

PROJECT WORK QUESTION

You have recently joined a young and upcoming firm Elite LLP Advocates as the
Managing Partner. You previously worked in a similar role at Apex LLP, which is a
young and upcoming law firm as well. You felt that your growth was stifled at Apex
LLP and have now sought to work in an organization that will allow you to exercise
your exemplary management skills.

Within two months of working at your new appointment, you are disgruntled by the
lack of processes, policies and guidelines within the firm, right from the office
entryway, engagement with the clients, process of onboarding, work culture and
service delivery, down to use of the organization’s property and time. You identify
glaring errors, professional misconduct and potential law suits against the firm and its
employees in the waiting.

As you are keen on giving this new opportunity your best, you take it upon yourself, as
the Managing Partner, to restore order to the firm.

i. What will you be required to do to ensure you have the buy in of all colleagues
as well as the financial capability to carry out your intended plans?
(3 marks)

ii. How, and through what documents, shall you seek to improve Elite LLP
Advocates? Develop the said documents and/or templates
(8 marks)

iii. Another reason for seeking employment elsewhere was the fact that Apex LLP
seemed not to have any plans for one’s growth and development in the
organization, including succession opportunities. Develop one such plan for
Elite LLP.

iv. Develop an Action Plan for the determined course of action.
