Weekly Debate Evaluation

Debate /30
- Prior to the debate, submit a Google Doc to the Classroom containing:
-The side you are arguing (1 sentence)
- Links to the websites you got your information from (minimum 3)
- Hand in the notes you used ( point form, main points)

Debate Reflection: /10


--Write a three or four-paragraph reflection of the debate that you OBSERVE, not the debate in which
you participate.
--You should highlight the key points that are made by each side, the arguments/rebuttal that you think
are strong and weak, and provide your personal opinion on the topic.
-- What type of argument or fallacy did you notice? (link to things learned in the textbook)
--Did your opinion change after watching the debate?
--State which side you feel won the debate.

 Presents correct and relevant information


 States position clearly
 Links themes from Philosophy effectively to points being made

Thinking/Inquiry /10
 Organizes and presents ideas logically
 Sets out statement in a logical manner

Communication /10

 Presents arguments and ideas in a convincing manner


 Speaks in a clear voice and projects well
 Makes eye contact with team and audience members, rarely looking at notes
 Listens actively to opponent, and responds to what is being said effectively

Application: REFLECTION /10


 Submits a written reflection based on the debate that the student observed
 The reflection highlights the arguments on each side of the debate (one paragraph each) and the
opinions of the student. Makes use of language learned from textbook on logic and rhetoric.
