Disease/ Injury Explanation (Causes, Symptoms, Treatment)

Digestive System Peptic Ulcer Disease (PUD) It is a sore in the lining of the stomach or first part of the
small intestine called the duodenum. It is causd by
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) which is a type of
bacteria.

SYMPTOMS
An ache or burning pain in your abdomen
Abdominal pain that's worse when your stomach is empty
Nausea
Loss of appetite
Frequent burping
Bloating

TREATMENT
Antibiotics—antibiotics can kill the bacterium H. pylori in
the digestive system. A two-week treatment should be
sufficient, and then antacid medication may be prescribed
to control stomach acid.
Antacids—these medications neutralize stomach acid.
Side effects can include constipation or diarrhea. Antacids
relieve symptoms but do not always produce healing.

Skeletal System Osteoporosis It is a health condition that weakens bones, making them
fragile and more likely to break. Can be caused by taking
steroid tablets for more than 3 months or a family history
of osteoporosis.

SYMPTOMS
Back pain, caused by a fractured or collapsed vertebra
Loss of height over time
A stooped posture
A bone that breaks much more easily than expected

TREATMENT
Treatment for osteoporosis is based on treating and
preventing broken bones, and taking medicine to
strengthen your bones.

The decision about whether you need treatment depends

on your risk of breaking a bone in the future. This will be
based on a number of factors such as your age, sex and
the results of your bone density scan.

airways to get inflamed and narrow, and it makes it hard
to breathe. Can be triggered or caused by Allergies,
Food, Exercise, Heartburn, Sinusitis, Medications,
Weather, and Smoke

SYMPTOMS
Shortness of breath
Chest tightness or pain
Wheezing when exhaling, which is a common sign of
asthma in children
Trouble sleeping caused by shortness of breath, coughing
or wheezing
Coughing or wheezing attacks that are worsened by a
respiratory virus, such as a cold or the flu

TREATMENT
Rescue inhalers (or quick-relief inhalers)
Short-acting beta-agonists
Anticholinergics
