发展中国家快速的城市化

Unprecedented rapid urbanization has excited mankind while the aftermath of

uncontrolled desire looms closer and closer. By 2050, around 60 per cent of the world's
population will be living in cities, with the fastest urbanization occurring in poor countries.
Rapid urbanization on a large scale will have a long-term negative impact on the planet's
environment and expose its inhabitants to many threats if the new urban population is not
provided for. The risks of rapid urbanization in developing countries worry me 。 Faced
with these challenges, I would like to pursue a Master's study at the University of
Manchester MSc Urban Regeneration and Development.

Having experienced many countries at different levels and in different directions, I

became aware of the challenges of the "urban age",such as , hose great cities of the
twentieth century – Paris, London and others – continue to grow in size, slowly but surely.
However, some of the most important changes are happening elsewhere in the world-
Delhi, Karachi, Mumbai ; these cities are where the action is, where population growth
rates are the highest, and where the issues of producing and managing ecological,
economically, and socially sustainable cities are at the most pressing.
Aware of these dilemmas, I believe that the University of Manchester's courses provide
the right course content and direction for my research into these issues. The core course
Urban and Regional Policy and Future Cities provided me with the theoretical basis for
urban regeneration, and the dissertation and research methods provided me with the
tools to conduct independent and influential research. I am also keen to be able to go on
field trips to other cities to learn about their development and the issues they face.

The courset Manchester fits well with my career ambitions and I will be working in urban
planning in the UK after graduation. The University of Manchester is well located and has
many planning, development and environmental consultancy companies. I hope to find a
job where I can contribute to the development of the city.

In my year of university, I had the opportunity to finish my final year of studyat Aston University.
It has been more than two month since I came to Birmingham. I have gradually adapted to the
British teaching mode and gradually improved my English language skills. I believe that I will
gain a lot from Aston and lay a solid foundation for my postgraduate courses.

I am confident that this program will bring me new and exciting opportunities to further advance
my career goals. After completing the master's program, I plan to further my study and obtain a
doctorate degree.

I have long been fascinated by the King’s and I am really attracted to its practical approach. I am
interested in well-arranged compulsory and elective courses from Environmental Science for
Sustainability (MSc), because they link theory and practice with highly interactive and case-based
learning. These courses provide the opportunity to learn not only the theory of sustainable
development but also the impact of monitoring and modelling environmental processes and
changes on the environmental sustainability of the biosphere. The practice and analysis applied to
environmental data monitoring, modelling and mapping has enabled me to improve environmental
issues related to a range of human activities

I am confident that this Master of Science program will bring me new and exciting opportunities
to further advance my career goals. After completing the master's program, I plan to further my
study and obtain a doctorate degree. I believe that engaging in in-depth research will better train
me and lay a foundation for my future career. My career goal is to eventually become an
environmental engineer working in academia and industry. By conducting research in the
laboratory and solving real problems in the industry, I hope to promote research on the topic of
sustainable development and discover more environmental issues.

I have been studying in the field of engineering for almost four years. As my studies progressed, I
developed a strong interest in environmental technology. This was reinforced by an internship at
my university. I engaged in an internship at a steel mill in July 15, 2021. During my internship, I
saw many environmental problems. The small river gully next to the factory was full of household
garbage, untreated waste gas was discharged into the atmosphere, and people had to wear masks
due to the dust and pungent smell caused by trucks everywhere. These environmental problems
seriously affect the living environment of local residents.

This internship made me realize that environmental problems are still very serious. I believe that
the master's degree will provide me with in-depth knowledge of a variety of topics, including
sustainability and Environmental assessment. And I will learn to think critically about the
environment in the modern world and conduct independent study on the subject.

Personal Statement-
Understanding the governance of complex social-ecological systems is vital in a world faced with
rapid environmental change, conflicts over dwindling natural resources, stark disparities between
rich and poor and the crises of sustainability. Improved understanding is also essential to promote
governance approaches that are underpinned by justice and equity principles and that aim to
reduce inequality and benefit the most marginalised sectors of society.
As a crisis of epic proportions is not only health but also economic terms, the COVID-19
pandemic will plausibly leave a lasting imprint in the trend of globalization. Globalization has
increased the mobility of human resource, information, capitals, and productions, all of which
have allowed for International Business (IB) to prosper. As I interned in Deutsche Telekom
Consulting GMBH to assist in analyzing profitability of different investment portfolios during the
COVID-19 pandemic, I realized that Chinese financial markets dominant by traditional financial
products such as stocks and bonds are not adequately efficient in shifting investing risks, which is
partly present in the volatility of Chinese stock market amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Besides, the
demand of financial derivatives in China is flourishing. Since that, financial derivatives
development in Chinese financial markets will be considered as rational as from an innovative
perspective. It is the ever-changing pursuit of financial markets which makes it a discipline in
which one will also be challenged. Yet it is not just the versatility that attracts me to economics in
an innovative manner, but also the diversity of this exciting discipline.
To pursue this career goal, I am keen to apply for Environment, Politics and Development MSc at
King's College London, where I will explore at an advanced level the main theoretical
assumptions, issues and research areas of international political economy, global politics, political
thought and international relations. For instance, through the course -Environmental Justice and
Governance, by examining governance across various sectors, it reveals the main drivers that
influence the nature of governance, the principles and norms that shape it, as well as the factors
that constrain or enable achievement of justice and sustainability outcomes. Thus, learning this
MSc program will enhance my essay-writing and presentational skills through the coursework
requirements and feedback on my performance. Hence, I made up my mind to pursue an advanced
education at your university.
Out of all-sided considerations, I choose to further my study in Environment, Politics and
Development MSc at King's College London.
I firmly believe that it is the best choice for me to study at your university so that I could gain
specific training and cultivate my specialty literacy as an analyst in World Bank Group. In
addition, I will try my best to make a contribution to your projects and class discussions with my
critical and international thinking.

I deem myself a good fit for the programme. Majored in international economics, I have built a
solid foundation evident in my ranking of 3rd out of 153 in my cohort. Having studied in Taiwan,
an exemplary case of developmental states, exchanged to Sri Lanka and volunteered in Indonesia,
I am experenced in the economic development of different kinds and stages. Finally, and most
crucially, the enthusiasm for the discourse of politics, economics and development will take me
farther in the inquiry into the development of emerging economies.

Unprecedented technological progress has excited mankind while the aftermath of uncontrolled
desire looms closer and closer. The developed world has stroke hard in the transition towards
sustainable development while the developing countries are still convinced that they should
"pollute first and sustain later". Having experienced different levels and aspects of development in
many countries, I started to realize the difficulties that many developing countries are confronted
with. For example, China's booming economy has brought serious environmental pollution to the
country, which may take generations to tackle. Moreover, in Indonesia, the local government's
failure to provide public goods like education and healthcare has doomed its people into a vicious
cycle of poverty. In the eyes of most economists and political scientists, the realist game of
development could hardly achieve a Pareto efficiency. That shouldn't be the case. There must be a
solution. Desiring to get closer to the solution, I would like to pursue a master's study at King's
MSc Environment, Politics and Development.

the fast infrastructural buildup in Sri Lanka has improved the quality of life for millions and
created more life possibilities for locals.
However, the Chinese-funded boom brings the nation tremendous debts which might take
generations to repay. Moreover, in Indonesia, the local government's failure to provide public
goods like education and healthcare has doomed its people into a vicious cycle of poverty. In
contrast, the great economical feat achieved by the Chinese government is remarkable while it is
criticized for its many imperfections. The paradigms provided by western politicians seem not
proper in the local context. The argument of relativism and universalism seems never-ending.
However hard it is, developing economies have to find a good way to develop themselves.
