Communication Survey

To improve our communication with members, Paula will send a

survey to everyone to select your preferred method of
communication. Examples are: email, text, phone call, chapter
website, Signal, or USPS mail.

Committees

Scholarship

Elaine Aaron and Katrina Fossella will share the grant application that they
created at the next chapter meeting.

World Fellowship

Risa Katz will share information about three of the World Fellowship
recipients.
Also, from Risa Katz, Chair of World Fellowship:

The World Fellowship program was set up to supplement

successful international students that meet the Delta Kappa
Gamma fellowship requirements. The Fellowship Committee in
turn selects those recipients for Society grants.
Our Chapter donated $150 dollars towards the World Fellowship
fund giving us the Platinum certificate. In return, we received the
list of recipients. After going through the list of students
achieving degrees from Masters and Doctorates in various fields
of study, we decided since we are an educational organization,
we would choose those in the field of education plus 1 nurse due
to the dire shortage of nurses.
We will also take pleasure in corresponding with the recipients
through mail and hopefully learn more about them personally,
about their country and their goals. We can also acknowledge
them during the holidays. It is also possible we can invite them

to a Zoom session. (That would definitely be a treat). Looking

forward to reaching out to them.
I am pleased to say that I have had some wonderful communication with
our World Fellowship recipients. At the board meeting, we decided to
choose three recipients who are all studying in the field of education. I
contacted Victoria Eastman, World Fellowship Chairperson to give her
the names. She got the ball rolling by emailing them letting them know
that we would be in touch. I reached out to all three and immediately
received a response from two. They shared their experiences with
other chapters that they connected with since this is the second year
that they are recipients. I also mentioned the possibility of zooming
with them. They were extremely interested since they did so in the past
with their other chapters. As I was reading all their information, I
noticed that one was celebrating her birthday. So I sent out a card on
behalf of our chapter. Looking for to future correspondence with these
ladies.

Membership

We are counting on our teachers currently in the schools to help identify a

few good women educators.

Neena Grosvenor has created a professional online yearbook for our

chapter. She will share the new yearbook at several chapter meetings.

Carol-Ann Lansdale

Carol-Ann is a retired media specialist who is an active Xi member.

Carol-Ann has done it all in DKG, but now prefers to do the task of
being Treasurer because she knows how to do it all.  A few weeks
ago, a state chairperson reminded chapter presidents of a report that
was due and she was the only one in the entire state to have met the
deadline with months to spare.  Carol-Ann is a person who is
disciplined in her activities.  I have not heard the tape she has
“worked out” to for the last few decades every morning, but she
enhances that with Silver Sneakers a few mornings a week.  Even
though I had been in Xi for many years, the first time I really felt I got
to know her was when she invited us to meet at Cardinal Gibbons
Media Center after she had retired. Her daughter-in-law Marlena is
the Tech in the revised name–Technology Center.. There were no

books in the center and she described what the school did to give
students the ability to research, read and function without books.
Wow!

Carol-Ann recently went to Alaska with her daughter and  they plan to
go to the British Isles in 2024. She has a close relationship with all
her children and grandchildren.

I was fascinated when on a Zoom meeting sharing session in the

last year or so, she told us about how she and her husband would
become camp counselors in the summer so their children could have
the experience of attending summer sleepover camp.  I also loved
another sharing session when she spoke of her French Canadian
heritage and the holiday customs handed down through the family..

Personally, I’m not sure Paula and I could be effective co-presidents

without Carol-Ann, Barbara, Pat, and Neena’s guidance.  I have the
utmost respect for all she has done and all that she brings to our
chapter.

Neena Grosvenor

Neena is a true lifelong learner.  Whenever she sees a new program

that can do amazing things she believes would benefit something she
wants to do, or one that would benefit the chapter, she learns how to

use it.  She wanted to learn Spanish, and takes a Spanish class and
spends time online or on the phone speaking Spanish with a couple
of friends who live in Spain.  She will hopefully get to use her
language skills on a long trip to Spain this summer.  She sews, she
paints and has a myriad of other skills.

She was an exceptional English teacher at Western High School,
before earning her Master's in Media at Nova Southeastern
University.  Luckily, Western had three campuses when she finished
her degree and she managed the tenth-grade center with skill and
energy.
When Cypress Bay opened and Western no longer needed three
centers, she moved on to Silver Lakes where she wrote a number of
grants that added state-of-the-art technology, books, and even a
garden to the school.  You all know her rise to further heights at the
county office where she shared her knowledge with media persons
across the county.

Some of you may not be aware, but Xi has nominated her for the
Sara B Ferguson Award from the state DKG organization this Spring.
She has served Xi well for almost 25 years and has also been active
at the district and state levels—a requirement of the award.  Keep
your fingers crossed for her when we go to the State Convention in
Lake Mary at the end of April.  Whether or not she wins the award
this year, she is a winner to us in every way possible.  She is one of
the go-to people when you need to know anything tech.

Barbara Sabin

Barbara is a perfectionist who has had a life of service to her family,

her church, and other community groups.  I’m not certain that
Barbara has ever forgotten a thing she ever learned about
parliamentary procedure, Xi’s chapter rules or procedures or how to
do ceremonies and “stuff”.   If she is even slightly unsure, she knows
exactly where to find the information. This is a gift very few of us
share, but we benefit from this every year.  She is very giving and
when we said we had no one willing to take on the task of doing the
meeting minutes, she volunteered to become the Secretary, as well
as, the Parliamentarian.  When the State Parliamentarian had each
chapter turn in its rules and procedures, hers were deemed perfect!
Thank you, Barbara.

Barbara and “her Jim” love to travel and yearly, we have heard about
her adventures.  This year was a trip to Rome to see the sights, then
boarding a ship to do a leisurely sail back to Fort Lauderdale from the
Mediterranean.  They visit relatives around the US and have been
included in vacation rentals in the Keys and elsewhere with the kids.

Barbara started out teaching in Illinois before coming South to the Ft.
Lauderdale area.  She remembers when the area was a much
sleepier town than the megalopolis we are now part of on the
Atlantic.
