Internship Goals and Objectives

Goals and Objectives

I have accepted a volunteer position with Central Illinois branch of Junior Achievement

USA. This is a non-profit company that offers different curriculum to the schools in Central

Illinois in order to teach them valuable life skills and empower them to accomplish their dreams

to support their own families. This curriculum is customized for children in first grade through a

teenager’s senior year of high school.

My first goal is to become better acquainted with Junior Achievement and their mission.

The objective to being able to accomplish that goal includes watching new employee training

videos documenting the different areas of Junior Achievement, their history, their brand, their

mission statement and the impact they want to have in the lives of children. Another objective is

go through the experience of working in the day to day activities of the Project Manager and

understand how those programs get from corporate and into the classroom.

My second goal is become a valuable resource to those working behind the scenes

coordinating all the presentations in the classroom. One objective that will be used to achieve

this goal is by working on projects that the Project Manager deems as helpful. For example, she

had a list of all the schools in the state of Illinois, but it was not narrowed down to those only

within the Central Illinois territory. She requested I create a spreadsheet identifying only the

schools within our territory and created an extra tab for just the high schools. This will save them

a lot of time in trying to find the contact information they need. A second objective is to learn

how to use the Junior Achievement database in order to create and organize which classrooms
are having which lessons taught by whom and on what date.

Junior Achievement uses a lot of volunteers. My program manager told me that those that

go into the classroom to teach have the best jobs because they get the joys of teaching without

the headaches of actually being the teacher. A goal that we both have for me is to be comfortable

presenting a Junior Achievement lesson to children in their classroom at various ages. Prior to

doing that, there will be a couple of objectives to complete before making that goal a reality.

First objective is to go through the volunteer teacher signup and training process. Secondly, it

requires practice and knowing the material well enough to present it in an age appropriate way.

Finally, my goal is to make a positive impact on all those I have had the pleasure of

working with during this internship. The first objective that I feel is necessary is to represent

myself, my school and my goals clearly and respectfully. I also feel that I need to have a good

work ethic and make this a positive experience for Junior Achievement as a whole and me.

Another objective is to help make an impact on the children I encounter. I want them to walk

away from my presentations feeling empowered and excited to chase their dreams and

accomplish their goals.

When this internship is complete, I would like to have the confidence needed to teach at

any age level. As a future family life educator, understanding how to prepare material and

present it in effective and appropriate ways is vital to the success of my programs. Working with

Junior Achievement will definitely give me some positive experience in going through that

process. Junior Achievement will also help me learn how to keep organized on a large scale

when teaching multiple classes.
