    In the 1950s, what is now called Aklan Village was a thickly forested area known as Dumanting and was a sitio of another barangay. In 1959, the first Ilocano settlers began populating the area. Later, more Visayan settlers from Aklan and Capiz arrived. Since most residents were from Aklan, they decided to name the growing community Aklan Village. In 1977, Cirilo Verano was appointed as the first barangay captain but was killed in an ambush shortly after. Gualberto Tolentino was then appointed as captain and continued efforts to formally establish the barangay. The residents voted for ratification on November 29, 1978. Aklan

    AKLAN VILLAGE ELEMNETARY SCHOOL HISTORY

    As far back as the 1950’s what is now called Brgy Aklan Village was a vast and
    thickly forested mountainous area. It used to be a mere sitio of Brgy Dumanisi, and was
    called Dumanting. Sometime in 1959 the first wave of early settlers, who were Ilocanos,
    began to populate this forest.
    But soon more and more Visayan settlers arrived, mostly from Kalibo, Aklan and
    from Jamindan, Capiz; and thus the people of the growing community felt the need to
    constitute the place into a barangay. Since the Aklanons dominated over the other ethnic
    groups, they decided to call the place Aklan Village.
    Because the settlement was already popularly considered as a barangay, although
    without any official sanctions yet, the village Chieftain, Cirilo Verano, was appointed into
    the position as Barangay Captain on November 15, 1977. Verano rallied the residents
    towards the ratification of the settlement as a full-fledged barangay. However, his
    leadership was to be cut short because he died in an ambush within the month.
    To avoid a leadership gap, Gualberto Tolentino was appointed November 28, as
    Barangay Captain to replace the slain leader. He pushed for the ratification campaign
    started by Verano; and the constituents voted for the same exactly one year after, on
    November 29, 1978.
    Eventually, Brgy Aklan Village was officially founded on October 20, 1980 under the
    administration of Municipal Mayor Mariano G. Pimentel.
    Tolentino’s leadership continued as he was subsequently elected to the position of
    Barangay Captain during the local elections of 1982

    AKLAN VILLAGE ELEMNETARY SCHOOL HISTORY

    Taong 1950’s, ang barangay Aklan Village ay isang malawak at makapal na


    kagubatan. Ito ay nagging Sitio ng Barangay Dumanisi na kung saan tinawag na Dumanting.
    Noong 1959 ang unang nanirahan ay mga Ilocanos, at sila ang nagsimulang maglinang sa
    nasabing kagubatan.
    Nang kalaunan dumating at dumami ang mga Visayan na nanirahan ditto na galing
    sa Kalibo Aklan at Jamindan, Capiz. At nang dumami ang ang mga tao, kinailangan nilang
    magtatag ng isang barangay. Samantala, ang mga aklanon ay mas marami kaysa sa ibang
    pangkat etniko, kaya napagkasunduan nilang tawagin ang lugar na Aklan Village.
    Dahil sa pagsasa-ayos ng mga naninirahan dito at ibinilang nilang isang barangay. Si
    Village Chieftain Cirilo Verano ay hinirang bilang Punong Barangay noong November 15,
    1977. Si Verano ay umapila sa mga kapwa residente upang pagtibayin na maging isang
    ganap na barangay. Subalit ang kanyang pamumuno, ay hindi nagtagal dahil siya ay nasawi.
    Upang maiwasan ang sigalot sa pamumuno, si Gualberto Tolentino ay hinirang muli
    bilang Punong Barangay kapalit ng yumaong dating namumuno noong November 28, 1977.
    Ipinagpatuloy ni Gualberto Tolentino ang nasimulan ni Verano na pagtibayin at gawing
    ganap na barangay ang Aklan Village. At noong Nobyembre 29, 1978 makalipas ang isang
    taon ang mga residente ay sumang-ayon kay Tolentino.
    At sa huli ang Barangay Aklan Village ay opisyal ng naitatag bilang isang Barangay
    noong Oktubre 20,1980 sa pamumuno ni Mariano G. Pimentel, ang Punong lungsod ng
    Diffun.
    Ang pamumuno ni Tolentino ay nagpatuloy pagkatapos siyang ihalal ng mga tao sa
    posisyon bilang punong barangay noong halalang local ng 1982.
