Course policies

• Be punctual.

• Maximum late: 15 minutes.

• Be present at least 80% of the

Groupwork
• The class will be divided into 6 groups.
Each group should have 5-6 students.

• Choose one group leader. The group


leader must report to the instructor who
contributes what to the groupwork. If
one does not participate in the
groupwork, he/she will receive zero.

Test 1:

+ Week 6.

+ Vocabulary: Unit 1 – 8 (The


vocabulary files – C1 level).

+ 2 reading passages.

+ Week 12.

+ Vocabulary: Unit 9 – 15 (The


vocabulary files – C1 level).

+ 2 reading passages.
Reading project

+ Each group select a short story


written in English (Below 200
pages).

+ All group members MUST read the


book.

+ Inform the instructor of the


book’s title on Week 2.
Reading project – Presentation
(Length: 45-60 mins)
Structure:

1/ Author biography.

2/ Setting of the story.

3/ Plot summary.

4/ Themes.

5/ Analyze characters in the story.

6/ Symbols in the story. (if there is any)

7/ Pick some quotes from the book and analyze them.

8/ Likes and dislikes of the book.


Reading project – Presentations

Schedule:

+ Group 1 + 2: Week 9.

+ Group 3 + 4: Week 10.

+ Group 5 + 6: Week 11.


Reading project –
Written book review
+ Length: 1000-1500 words.

+ The group leader shall submit on


Google Classroom on Week 12.

+ Part 1: Introduction (general topic,
author, overall impression, etc.)

+ Part 2: Plot summary. (1 paragraph)

+ Part 3: What did you like about the


story? (2-3 paragraphs)

+ Part 4: What would you change about


the story? (2-3 paragraphs)

+ Part 5: Conclusion.

Guiding questions
1. Which characters did you like best? Which did you like least?

2. Which character did you relate to, or empathize with, the most?

3. What do you think happens to the characters after the book's official
ending?

4. What are your thoughts on the book's structure? Did it serve the story
well?

5. How did the setting impact the story? Would you want to read more books
set in that world?

6. Did the book feel real to you? Why or why not?

7. Did the plot proceed in a way that felt natural? Why or why not?

8. Are there any characters you'd like to deliver a lecture to? If so,
who? What would you say?

9. Are there any parts you want to change in the story? What are they?

10. What did you dislike most in the story?


Bonuses

• Active students will be awarded with


bonuses.

• 1 bonus = 0.04 points added to Mid-


term.

• Maximum: 2 points added to Mid-term.


Book club activities

There are 3 book club activities:

+ Book club 1: Week 3.

+ Book club 2: Week 5.

+ Book club 3: Week 7.

à All students are supposed to


read all 3 books.
Book club activities
• For each book club day, 4-5 students
will volunteer to present about each
book. If there is no volunteer, the
presenters will be randomly
selected.

• Length: 10-15 mins.

• Each presenter will receive 25


bonuses as a reward.

to do?

• What is the most impressive point the author makes in


this book?
