In 200 words, what do you think is more motivating to read: academic texts or non –

academic texts? Why? (50 points)

Although there are some distinctions, I would instead suggest that both texts are
intriguing and distinctive in their respective approaches because they present a diverse variety of
concepts that are consistent with their underlying structures and purposes. Academic and non-
academic literature, however, encourage reading for different reasons. Academic texts are a
medium for disseminating studied information in a particular topic of study. These support my
ability to evaluate, communicate, and also, think critically in students, like myself. Academic
texts would inspire me to read since, in addition to being accurate and educational, they also
enable me expand my vocabulary and foster logical reasoning. It motivates me to be as unbiased
and as precise as I can. On the other hand, since non-academic texts are not audience-directed, a
broader demographic is drawn to them. It is imaginatively written in a less formal style, relying
mainly on the authors' own perspectives and emotional appeal. Reading non-academic works
exposes me to various points of view and original concepts. Reading non-academic texts helped
me develop better information processing techniques, notably those relating to creativity in
formulating ideas and public speaking. The degree of awareness to confusing situations from the
non-academic texts I have read improves my ability to make decisions. Reading outside of the
academic texts give me new ideas and insights on various diversity, civilizations, ways of life,
and other topics. Additionally, it encourages my cognitive development and piques my interest.
