To download Java 1.

First, open a web browser and type
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp
into the address bar. You should obtain the following page:

Click on the JDK 5.0 Update 10 Download button. You should obtain the web page
entitled “Download J2SE(TM) Development Kit 5.0 Update 10” (see the graphic on the
next page):

You are required to accept the licensing agreement by clicking the radio button labeled
Accept. [You may wish to actually read the agreement by clicking the link next to the
Accept button.]

After you have agreed to the licensing terms, you may choose to download either of the
install files in the first section, titled Windows Platform - J2SE(TM) Development Kit
5.0 Update 10. These instructions assume you pick the first one, Windows Offline
Installation, Multi-language. Once you have made your choice, click on the appropriate
link to initiate the download.

When the download is complete, open it by navigating to the location you saved the file
to, and double click on it. Again, you will be asked to accept the license agreement. You
will then be presented with a screen asking you to select what you want installed, and
where to put it. You should simply click Next at this point (to select the default options).
The installer will then begin installing the Java development kit.

After the development kit is installed, you will be prompted to install or reinstall the Java
Runtime Environment. Follow the procedure outlined above (i.e., click Next a few times)
and Java will be installed.

To download DrJava*:
First, open a web browser and type
http://drjava.org
in the address bar. You should obtain a page which should look like the screen capture
below:

Locate the section entitled Current Stable Release. Verify that the release number is
drjava-stable-20061025-1556 and click the download link appropriate for your platform.

If you are using Windows, Download Windows App is the correct choice. Likewise for
the Mac, the Download Mac OS X App would be the correct choice. If you are using
Linux or other UNIX versions, select Download Jar File .

Remember the location that you download this file to. Once the file is downloaded, click
on it to open DrJava. You may be asked to locate the tools.jar file. To do this, and
assuming that you did not change the default location the Java Development Kit was
installed in, go to drive C:, then Program Files, then Java, then jdk1.5.0_10, then
lib, then tools.jar.
