What to prepare for the 2022 EoY exam in Pre-IB English

Use the coursebook, the ‘Studieplan’/’Undervisningsbeskrivelse’ in Lectio, your notes, and your
assignments/tasks as preparation for the exam.

The EoY texts are all from the coursebook:

1. The Danger of a Single Story (speech)
2. Explorers, or Boys Messing About? (article)
3. Between a Rock and a Hard Place (autobiography)
4. ‘Out, Out-‘ (poem)
5. Whistle and I’ll Come to You (extract from novel)
6. The Story of An Hour (short story)

The exam will include three sections:

Section A: Short answers to questions on one of the EoY texts
- Use the lines available to write your answers on
- Note the max. marks for each question as they will indicate how much you should write.
Section B: Multiple-choice questions on a second of the EoY texts AND a few short-answer Qs as
well
- Use the lines or boxes available for your answers
- Note the max. marks for each question as they will indicate how much you should write.
Section C: An essay on a third EoY text
- There will be a specific essay question including suggestions as to what you could include in
the essay
- Use the PIE/PEE/PEEL method when you structure your essay
- Use contextual knowledge in your essay (eg. knowledge about the author, the time, the genre
etc.). Show that this is a known text and you have prepared for the essay.

In your preparations for the exam, make sure:

- You have read all texts carefully several times and done the connected tasks from the
coursebook
- You have looked at the Exam-type questions for the given texts as well
- You are aware of the different text types and/or genres (what characterizes them and what to
be aware of if you were to write the text yourself)
- You have read up on how to structure an essay by using the PEE/PIE/PEEL method

Good luck!
