Sexual assault refers to how an individual intentionally touches another people without

the individual's consent. Besides, it is forcing individuals to get involved in a sexual act against

their wish. Sexual assault is sexual violence, which may comprise rape, groping, and child sexual

abuse. Domestic assault refers to the type of abuse in a domestic setting like cohabitation or

marriage. To better comprehend the message in the article, one should identify whether the Coast

Guard or other branches of the armed forces impose harsh enough sentences in sexual assaults

against ladies.

In my opinion, the Coast Guard and other branches of the armed forces do not impose

harsh enough sentences in cases of domestic assaults or sexual assaults against ladies. The way

the Coast Guard Academy deals with the complaints of sexual violence among cadets shows that

the violators do not get harsh enough punishment. For instance, the report they produced showed

that the organization received eight complaints which only resulted in the dismissal of three

learners (Yardley, 2). Since the complaints included inappropriate touching and nonconsensual

sexual contact, the violators were supposed to be fined and sent out of the organization. If the

punishment were harsh enough, all the violators would be dismissed from the organization.

Besides, the violators are not well punished according to their bad deeds. If the Coast Guard

Academy imposed harsh enough punishment, all the accused members would be subjected to a

court-martial to check whether they had gone against military law and be punished accordingly.

Finally, I would argue that the Coast Guard and other branches of the armed forces do not

impose enough sentences on the law violator because Mr. Smith was not punished accordingly.

Mr. Smith was accused of committing assault, rape, sodomy, and indecent assault. His actions

could take him to jail, forcing him to pay a fine and get sentenced (Yardley, 3).
