Kurt Lewin, a psychologist, conducted research in 1939 that described the three primary leadership

styles and their respective effects on team members. His study also showed that different team
leadership styles provide diverse outcomes for leaders (Mind tools).

He identified three main leadership styles: Authoritarian (autocratic) leadership, Participative


(democratic) leadership & Delegative (laissez-faire) leadership.

The result I get from the assessment of lewin’s leadership construct assessment instrument is a high
range for democratic and moderate for Authoritarian and laissez-faire. I believe this result somehow
will explain my leadership style.

I prefer and believe in teamwork and being a leader it’s solely the responsibility of the leader to be
participative with his team it will not only motivate the team members but will also enhance the
work culture in an organization, different organizations have different working environments. I
believe organizational culture and work environment has a lot of influence on the leadership style of
an individual. Lewi’s theoretical construct is true when the leader has a comfortable work
environment, and an employee with no or less support suffers. I said so because I have been in such
a situation where with no management support I suffered on my credibility and project progress,
where I was deliberately questioned on my leadership skills.

I favor and support teamwork, and I firmly believe that the job of a leader is to actively engage his
team. This will not only inspire the team members but will also improve the workplace culture—
different firms have various working environments. I think a person's leadership style is greatly
influenced by corporate culture and the workplace. When the leader works in a pleasant
environment, Lewi's theoretical idea holds, and a worker who receives little to no support suffers. I
made that statement because I had personally experienced a circumstance in which I was
purposefully questioned about my leadership abilities and suffered for it without management
backing.
