Introduction:
The Cairo and Dubai-based tech-enabled mass transit company was founded back in
2017 by two friends. Later, its headquarters was shifted to Dubai which was part of the
strategy with the aim to go global. The company is now successfully operating in around
135 cities in 20 countries across the Middle East and Africa.
Segmentation:
Swl targets both males and females. According to the statistics, 63.93% of users are
male and 36.07% are females. The service generally focuses on people from 18 to 54
years while emphasizing mostly the age group of 25-35 which include professionals
who commute on a daily basis.
The company is providing its services majorly in Egypt, Canada, Pakistan, United
States and United Arab Emirates.
UniqueSelling Point:
Competitors:
As Swvl is not the only company offering commute services, it has several competitors
in the market that create a cut-throat competition for the company. Some of its top
competitors in the middle east are Careem, Uber, Buseet.com, Menabytes.com,
Brighskiesinc.com, Wayamedia, ola corporate, flywheel and smart2car.
In the domestic competition, Uber and Careem operate with the USP of quality and comfortable
private rides but with higher fare rates.
Swot Analysis
Strengths:
· Swvl is a fairly priced company that offers suitable and comfortable rides for
people of every class and is already considered a renowned service as compared to
careem and Uber.
· Making effective use of the concept of shared spaces, they’re cutting the cost of
fuel and increasing seating.
· The minibuses of Swvl offer safer and more comfortable rides to the user, unlike
Uber and Careem where the rider has to cover the fuel cost solely.
Weaknesses:
· As per a recent incident, Swvl has been facing backlash on the company’s
treatment of its employees. The workers reportedly were facing unfair termination
which created a fire over the internet.
· From the user's side; people are reluctant to utilize the services since it's new in
the market.
· The company has not made a mark in the market, yet which is a worrying factor
for the company.
Opportunities:
Considering the vast yet bigger market in the Middle East and Africa, Swvl has a lot of
room for growth. Its innovative and latest tech-based system is more likely to be
adopted by young and professional travelers. The level of convenience the service has
to offer is more suitable for frequent travelers.
Threats:
While talking about the threats, the strict government regulations regarding local
transport can be one of the threats to the company.
