About the Project
• The $456 million Wisconsin Center expansion will bring the exposition hall to 300,000 contiguous square feet; add 24 new meeting rooms for a total
of 52; approximately 400 indoor parking spaces; add 6 loading docks for a total of 22; an additional kitchen; and feature a spectacular fourth floor
rooftop ballroom with space for a minimum of 2,000 for a seated dinner and outdoor terraces.
• The Wisconsin Center expansion will double the convention center space to total more than 1.3 million square feet, allowing the Wisconsin Center to
host multiple events simultaneously and offer flexible space arrangements to meet various clients’ needs.
• The expansion of the Wisconsin Center is pursuing LEED Silver certification, a holistic effort that guides the WCD to make building choices that will
improve efficiency, lower carbon emissions and create healthier places for guests, clients and locals.
• Some notable features focused on sustainability include a solar roof, an underground storm trap, LED lighting in the front and back of house, ceramic
fritted glass to increase energy efficiency and prevent bird collisions and a food waste digester, which will be installed into the existing food composting
program run by Levy Restaurants.
• A diverse, Milwaukee-based panel is identifying pieces of public art that will eventually reside in the north and south buildings of the Wisconsin Center
in 2024.
• January 10, 2020 – Construction management team of Gilbane/Smith awarded construction contract
• April 2, 2020 – WCD Board authorizes resolution to proceed with the expansion project, pending funding approval by the Governance Committee
