As an example, one student listened to a radio news report about COVID-19, which discussed hygiene practices to avoid catching the virus from an official at the Health Department. The student was able to understand about half of the news item and picked up the local accent.

    NZCEL Level 4: Listening events and analysis

    Each week we require you to listen to one event spoken in English and analyse your abilities. Choose
    a reasonably short event, perhaps five minutes or a little more.

    You could listen to: a telephone conversation; radio; television; a face to face conversation (e.g. with
