National Sea Festival

The National Sea Festival is a celebration that annually takes place in the city of Mar del Plata,
Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is celebrated in the month of December for the season summer tourist
in the city.

It is a festival where each year several beautiful girls are selected as princess or queen in
representation of the sea, they are chosen in a beauty contest where beauty, intelligence and
talent are the main factors taken into account to select the queen who will represent the Sea the
following year.

The role of the Queen is to represent Mar del Plata and also to participate in other national and
provincial parties, as well as tourism fairs and workshops to promote the city.

The National Sea Festival history started in 1910 when the Bristol hotel from this city decided to
organize an annual event to promote the tourism of the city with a very nice festival where several
families could enjoy all together the best of Mar del Plata participating in the election of the Mar
del Plata queen.

When the Festival started at this year, the applicants were the daughters of fishermen and
lifeguards of the city and then a lot of beautiful girls from different places began to participate in
this great festival.

The festival each year has not only the election of the queen but it also offers artisan food stalls
from different provinces from Argentina.

The queen elected will represent not only the city; she will be also involved in charity events to
collect money for poor people, especially children.

This Festival has a lot of values to be considered to the community, the first one is to help poor
people, this is the main value which teach us, how important is to think in people that need our
help, and another one value is to share in family an extraordinary event where all the members
could enjoy this special moment all together, understanding that helping others can be one tool to
build a better world.
