1. MOUNTING

1.1 Display Unit

Mounting considerations

The display unit is designed for mounting on a tabletop. When

selecting a mounting location, consider the following points.
• Locate the unit away from direct sunlight and water splash.
• Locate the unit at least one meter from magnetic field generat-
ing devices.
• The mounting location must be free of electrical noise and in-
terference.
• The temperature and humidity must be stable and moderate.
• Allow service/ventilation space indicated in the outline draw-
ing.

Procedure

1) Unfasten the two bolts at

the front of the display
unit. Detach the mounting
base from the display
unit. 120 (REAR)

2) Drill four ø12mm fixing 160

holes in the mounting lo- Mounting Base

display unit. Fig.1-1 Display unit

3) Fix the mounting base to the mounting location by using M10

bolts, nuts and washers, or ø9mm coach screws.
4) Place the display unit on the mounting base and fix it to the
mounting base with the bolts removed in step 1.

1.2 Transceiver Unit

Mounting considerations

The transceiver unit is designed for mounting on a bulkhead. When

selecting a mounting location, keep the following points in mind.
• The mounting location must not exposed to direct sunlight and
water splash.

7
• The temperature and humidity must be stable and moderate.
• Allow service/ventilation space indicated in the outline draw-
ing.

Procedure
260

1) Referring to the outline draw-

ing for the transceiver unit,
loosely set two bolts (M6) or
ø6mm coach screws in the
mounting location for the 300
upper fixing holes.
2) Set the transceiver unit to the
two bolts (or coach screws)
and tighten them. Fig. 1-2 Transceiver unit

3) Set two bolts or coach screws to the lower fixing holes.

1.3 Motion Sensor (option)

Mounting considerations

The motion sensor is designed to be mounted on a bulkhead or the

deck. When selecting a mounting location, consider the following
points.
• The location must not be exposed to direct sunlight and water
splash.
• The bow mark on the KEEP UNIT LEVEL

unit must face ship’s bow

2) Set the chassis to the hanger with the bow mark on the unit
facing ship’s bow and then fasten the chassis to the hanger with
four bolts.

8
1.4 Rectifier

Procedure

1) Select a stable and flat place, not

interfered by magnetic field gen-
erating equipment.
2) Drill four ø10mm fixing holes in
the mounting location, referring
to the outline drawing for the rec-
tifier.
Fig. 1-4 Rectifier
3) Fasten the unit to the mounting
location with four M9 bolts or ø9mm coach screws.

1.5 Transducer (for FRP hull)

Mounting considerations

The performance of the equipment depends greatly upon the trans-

ducer position. Consider the following points when selecting a
mounting location for the transducer.
• Select a place least affected
by air bubbles since turbu- φ50

lence affects sounding capa-

position at 1/3 to 1/2 of the
ship’s length from the stern 172

is good. If this is not pos-

sible, the center of the trans-
ducer tank should be within 230 230
[UNIT: mm]
one meter of the keel. (On
high speed boats, the trans- Fig. 1-5 Transducer case
ducer must not rise above
the sea surface when the boat is planing.)
• The location must not be affected by engine noise.
• The transducer of other ultrasonic sounding equipment must
not induce noise into the transducer of the AQ-10.
• The transducer must be parallel with ship’s draft line. (The bow
mark on the transducer must face ship’s bow.)
CAUTION:
Do not transport the transducer by pulling the trans-
ducer cable; hold the transducer by the body. The
wiring in the transducer cable will break if the cable
is pulled.

9
Mounting the transducer tank (for FRP hull)

ducer case and thru-hull CABLE GLAND

3) Make a hole of approx. Fig. 1-6 Thru-hull pipe

location. Be sure the hole is perpendicular to ship’s bow.
4) Wipe off oil and dust on the hull bottom with a clean rag. Sand
the area around the hole to provide a smooth surface with which
to mount the transducer case. Sand the surface of the trans-
ducer case also.
5) Set the transducer case to the square hole. Fill the gap between
the transducer case and hull bottom with putty. (Refer to Fig.
1-7)
Note: When an FRP mat is not used, in step 6, fill the gap
between the transducer case and the keel with polyurethane.

tion carefully for leaks.

11
Mounting location and ship’s keel

The mounting location of the transducer case depends on the con-

figuration of the ship’s keel, as shown in Figure 1-14. In any case
be sure the mounting location is both strong enough to support the
weight of the transducer and is smooth.
