Republic act 10173 or also known as Data Privacy Act of 2012 is an Act protecting individual
personal informations in information and communications system in the government and the
private sector, creating for this purpose a National Privacy Commission, and for other purposes.
Whereas, including its implementation Rules and Regulations, Strengthens the fundamental
human rights of privacy, and of communication while ensuring the free flow of information to
promote innovation and growth. Improper/unauthorized processing, handling or disposal of
personal information can be penalized by imprisonment of up to 6 years and a hefty Fine of
PHP500,000.
