Enrichment 4

Summarize the following text in twenty words or less. Be sure to include appropriate
citations.

Studies have found that paper bags have a larger carbon footprint compared to plastic
bags because of the amount of energy, water and chemicals the production of paper bags
consume. In a briefing note prepared by Kristy Bell and Suzie Cave (2011) for the Northern
Ireland Assembly, it is reported that manufacturing paper bags requires above four times the
amount of energy plastic bags do. Also, the production of paper bags contributes more air and
water pollution compared to plastic bags. Other than high energy consumption during
processing, it also requires paper bags more energy to be transported. This is because, compared
to plastic bags, paper bags weigh more and take up more space, resulting in the need for more
resources to transport them (Chua-Unso, 2014).

Summary:

Kristy Bell and Suzie Cave (2011) discovered that paper bags have a larger carbon
footprint than plastic bags.

Activity 3

Use the different techniques in paraphrasing in processing the text. Be sure to include
the appropriate citations.

Corporations are owned by a group of people called stockholder or shareholders. To

begin with, there are two types of stockholders namely: Initial Stockholders and
Investors/Stockholders. Initial stockholders are the group of people who started the corporation.
They are the ones who invested a certain amount of money to start and build the operations of
the corporation. Second are the Investors or simply stockholders, who invest money to receive
profit from the corporation in the form of dividends. Also, the money invested is used to help and
support the business entity and its operations. Likewise, stockholders like these can be classified
into two namely: Major Stockholders and Minor Stockholders. Major Stockholders are the
people who own a large of portion of the Corporation around 15-50% and above. They are
expected to be more active with the corporation since they carry a huge weight of the
corporation. Next, are the Minor Stockholders, who own small portions of the corporation which
is around 10% and below. The amount and percentage of ownership can be matched with the
number of stocks owned by the stockholder over a corporation. When a Stockholder buys a
portion of the Corporation, he/she will receive what is known as a Stock Certificate. This
certificate shows the number of stocks taken, the cost of each stock and other information about
the stockholder (Gahol, 2011).

Answer:

(Gahol, 2011) Corporations are purchased by a group of people named stockholders or shareholders.
Stockholders are divided into two kinds namely: Initial stockholders and Investors/ Stockholders. Initial
Stockholders are a group of people who started the corporation, the ones who invested a fixed amount of
money to create the operations of the said corporation. Investors or the Simple Stockholders are the group
of people who also invest money to gain such profit from the corporation through dividends. Similarly,
stockholders are being classified into two called the Major stockholders and the Minor stockholders.
Major stockholders owned a large portion of the corporation with a 15-50% above of shares, and they
were expected to be more active since they have a high position in the corporation while the Minor
stockholders owned only a few portions of the corporation wherein they gain 10% below of shares. The
volume and percentage of ownership over a company may be compared to the number of stocks owned
by the stockholder. When a Stockholder purchases a part of the Company he / she earns what is known as
a Stock Certificate. This representation shows the number of inventories taken, the expense of each stock
and other stockholder details.

Answer:

Depression has become a worrying trend which affects not only an individual's psychological
well-being but also a person's physical well-being. Depression is a common mental condition
with depressive mood, loss of interest or pleasure loss of appetite, diminished motivation,
feelings of guilt or low self-worth, disturbed sleep, and poor concentration. Such problems can
become persistent, resulting in severe deterioration of an individual's ability to function
effectively in society. Suicide at its worst was known to lead to depression and suicidal
behaviour.

Symptoms of depression According to the black dog institute 2012, the symptoms of
depression are:

i. Feeling bad about yourself

ii. Change in sleeping patterns
iii. Change in appetite
iv. Feeling overwhelmed by pessimism, anger, guilt, irritability and anxiety
v. Varying emotions throughout the day, for example, feeling worse in the morning and happy as
the day progresses
vi. Poor concentration vii. Feeling exhausted
viii. Reduced performance in school

Looking at the above-mentioned signs it is clear that depression and suicide are closely
related. That doesn't mean that depressed individuals are committed or attempting suicide. This
shows however that, if not treated, depression may lead to suicidal behavior.
