(1MARK QUESTIONS)

1) Describe the set in Roster form :

{ x : x is a two digit natural number such that sum of the digits is 7 }
S={16, 61, 25, 52, 34, 43, 70}
2) Is pair of sets equal? A = {1/4, −1/3} , B = {x : x is solution of 12x2 -7x + 1 = 0}
Give reasons. [No, as solution of given equation is {1/4, 1/3} ]

3) Write the following intervals in set builder form: (-3, 0) and [6, 12]

A={x : x∈ 𝑅, -3< 𝑥 < 0}, B={y : y∈ 𝑅, 6 ≤ 𝑦 ≤ 12}

4) If the power set of a set M has 32 elements , how many elements are there in the set M ?
[5 elements]

5) If A = { 2, {a, 2} , b }, Write P(A). Does { a } belong to P(A) ?

P(A) = {∅, {2}, {{𝑎, 2}}, {𝑏}, {2, {𝑎, 2}}, {2, 𝑏}, {{𝑎, 2}, 𝑏}, 𝐴}
Note : {a} does not belong to P(A)

6) If A ∪ B = C and A ∩ B = then C – B = ? [A]

(2 MARK QUESTIONS)

7) For any two sets A and B, represent a Venn Diagram which shows that :

Shade appropriate regions in the Venn Diagram

8) If A and B are two given sets, Then represent the set (A – B) using Venn diagram.
Complement of (A-B) in U will include all the area except A-B

9) If A and B are two given sets, Then represent the set (𝐴 − 𝐵) 𝖴 (𝐵 − 𝐴) using Venn
diagram. Note : This is known as symmetric difference of Sets A and B.

10) In a class of 50 students, 30 students like Maths, 25 like Physics and 16 like both. Find the
number of students who like Neither Maths nor Physics.
[Using venn diagram we see that 11 students like Neither Maths nor Physics]

11)
A survey shows that 59 % of the Indians like Car A, whereas 42 % like Car B. What %
Indians like both ? [(59+42)-100= 1 % ]

(3 MARK QUESTIONS)

12) Let U = {1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6} A = {2, 3} and B = {3, 4, 5}. Verify both the DeMorgan’s Laws.

Find LHS and RHS separately in each case and prove that they are equal.
13) A and B are two sets such that n (A – B) = 14 + y , n (B – A) = 3y and n (A ∩ B) = y. Draw a
Venn diagram to illustrate this information. If n (A) = n (B),
find : (i) the value of y (ii) n (A 𝖴 B)

Using Venn diagram,

(i) y=7
(ii) n(A U B) = 49
