SURVEY

EXTERIOR AND INTERIOR DESIGN

What is
Ceiling?
A ceiling is an overhead interior surface that covers the
upper limits of a room.

It is not generally considered a structural element, but a

finished surface concealing the underside of the roof
structure or the floor of a storey above.

Ceilings can be decorated to taste, and there are many fine

examples of frescoes and artwork on ceilings especially in
religious buildings.

The most common type of ceiling is the dropped

ceiling which is suspended from structural elements

above.

Pipework or ducts can be run in the gap above the ceiling,

and insulation and fireproofing material can be placed
here.

Other types of ceiling include the cathedral ceiling, the

concave or barrel-shaped ceiling, the stretched ceiling and
the coffered ceiling.

CONCEALED GRID CEILING:

Elegant and minimalist

Concealed grid celling systems have a clean, elegant appearance. They can be suspended,
fastened directly, or bonded to the soffit with adhesive. Even ceilings containing service
installations will appear uninterrupted with no visible grid.
Options for the edges
Dedge When you want an invisible grid but still need access to the ceiling void, use D edge. D
edge tiles have C edges on two opposing sides and D edges on the others for easy installation
and removal.
They can be completely disassembled. X edge X edge tiles have a nearly monolithic appearance.
They can be suspended on a T24 grid as an entire celling or as multi-module framed islands.
They can also be attached directly to the soffit with X-hooks.
In local language it is known as 2 by 2 sheet.

SEMI-CONCEALED GRID CEILING:

This system is intended to accommodate plank tiles up to 300

mm wide and 1200, 1500, 1800, and 2500 mm long. Mineral
planks are made from a variety of materials, including wood.
/steel, aluminium, etc. Prices range from Rs. 89 to Rs. 89 per
plank, depending on size. The advantage is that such planks are
easily marketed and available in the market.
market. It is simple to place and takes less time.
The disadvantage is that the life span is not very long.

Advantages of false ceiling:
A ceiling keeps the room cool. When the room's height is excessive, adding a ceiling helps
to reduce the height.

"Reducing the height also helps in reducing the capacity of the air conditioner." Covering
the upper area has several advantages, including concealing wiring, lighting fixtures, air-
conditioning ducts, security cameras, and other fixtures.

The ceiling also serves as an attractive base for various decorative electric lights and fans.
Apart from that, a ceiling helps to eliminate echo in the room. Ceilings in bathrooms can be
installed to conceal pipes or other fixtures above.
Disadvantages of false ceiling:
One disadvantage of this ceiling system is the lack of headroom. To install the ceiling tiles and light fixtures, there
must be enough space between the grid and any pipes or ductwork above. In general, a minimum clearance of
100 to 200 millimetres (4 to 8 in) is frequently required between the lowest obstruction and the ceiling grid level.

For those who want the convenience of a dropped ceiling but have limited headroom, a direct-mount grid may
be appropriate. Stretch ceiling supports require less than one inch of vertical space, and there is no space
required for tiles to be lifted out with a stretch ceiling; however, a larger clearance space may be chosen to allow
room for MEC or for aesthetic reasons.
Dropped ceilings typically conceal many of a building's functional and structural elements, resulting in an
aesthetic paradigm that discourages the use of functional building systems as aesthetic design elements.

The concealment of these elements makes it more difficult to appreciate the complexity of today's advanced
building technologies. It is also more difficult to maintain and diagnose problems with concealed systems.

Dropped ceilings are a quick and inexpensive way to repair a ceiling or reduce HVAC costs as a renovation tool.
Mineral fibre, for example, sags, is easily damaged when handled, and stains easily, whereas stretch ceiling, tin,
and vinyl do not have these characteristics.
WOODEN FALSE CEILING
Introduction
→ IT IS USED BOTH FOR PROVIDING ROOFING AND FOR
AESTHETICAL PURPOSE IN A BUILDING.
→ IT CAN BE USED BOTH FOR DOM
ESTIC AND COMMERCIAL PURPOSE.
Types of wooden false ceiling:-
Drop ceiling
Ceiling tiles
Plank ceiling(tongue and groove)
Coffered ceiling
Suspended ceiling

Suspended ceiling
A non structural ceiling suspended below the overhead structural
slab or from the structural elements of a building and not bearing
onto the walls is known as suspended ceiling.
DROP CEILING
A DROP CEILING HAS TWO PARTS:
DROP PANELS AND A SUSPENDED
METAL GRID, WHICH HANGS BELOW
AN EXISTING CEILING.

Ceiling tiles
Ceiling tiles are standard 12" x 12" or 16" x 16"
squares that are attached to ot existing
ceiling with easy-to-install tracks and clips,
nails, or glue.
Plank ceiling(tongue and groove)
Tongue and groove ceilings look like real
wood and can be attached directly to an
existing ceiling or inserted into a
suspended grid system.

Coffered ceiling
Coffered ceilings are formed with recessed
panels surrounded by dropped beams that
create a grid pattern. It's a classic ceiling
design from Greek and Roman architecture
GYPSUM BOARD CEILING:

GYPSUM IS A MINERAL FOUND IN SEDIMENTARY ROCK FORMATIONS

IN A CRYSTALLINE FORM KNOWN AS CALCIUM SULPHATE
DIHYDRATE CASO, 2H,O. ONE HUNDRED POUNDS OF GYPSUM ROCK
CONTAINS APPROXIMATELY 21 POUNDS (OR 10 QUARTS) OF
CHEMICALLY COMBINED WATER. GYPSUM ROCK IS MINED OR
QUARRIED AND TRANSPORTED TO THE MANUFACTURING FACILITY.

PVC CEILING:

PVC ceilings are a type of ceiling made from polyvinyl chloride

(PVC) material. PVC ceilings have become increasingly popular
in recent years due to their many benefits, such as their
durability, ease of installation, and low maintenance
requirements.
PVC ceilings are long-lasting, simple to install, and require little
upkeep. They are available in a variety of designs and colours,
making them suitable for a variety of settings. PVC ceilings are
resistant to moisture, making them ideal for use in areas such as
bathrooms and kitchens. They can be cut to size and screwed or
glued to the ceiling. For those looking for a low-maintenance
ceiling, PVC ceilings are an affordable and practical option.

POP CEILING:

A pop ceiling is a false ceiling made by applying plaster

of Paris (POP) to a metal or wooden frame. The plaster
can be molded into intricate designs and painted to
match the room's decor. Installation involves creating a
frame and applying layers of POP, then sanding and
painting once dry. Pop ceilings can be visually stunning
but are more expensive and time-consuming to install
than other ceilings and require maintenance to prevent
cracking and chipping.

RATE - Rs.75/- to Rs.120/-per sq.ft

varies according to the design.
METHOD FOR FIXING THE POP FALSE CEILING Step 4:-
Step

1:

Fixing the wall supports and framework members.

FIXING THE FRAMEWORK DIRECTLY TO THE BEAMS OR

PLATER CEILING. Step 5:

Fixing a aluminum or wooden framework to act as supporting structure Apply the insulation
directly to the existing ceiling or roofing beams.

The insulations panels are then fitted over the framework

Wooden supports with a spacing of 40 cm. The panels are then screwed members
to the wooden framework.

Step 2

Fixing a suspended framework to a plasterd ceiling. Screw the

supports to the existing ceiling using screws and plugs.

Fix the supports at the same height.

Step 3:-

Fixing vertical struts to the supports

Decide on the height of the new ceiling.

Measure the desired height from the floor and make it off the 4
corners.

Fix the struts with a spacing of 60 cm.

Step 6:-

Fix the first row of ceiling panels Screw the first ceiling panel to
the left side against the wall, using 25 mm plasterboard screws
with a spacing between srews of 20 cm.

An 8 mm expansion gap between the panel and wall. This gap is

later covered with a finishing strip.

Step 7:-

Cutting panels to length.

at the end of the row,

Measure the required Length and mark this

Off.
Step 8:-
Finishing the joints.
Make sure the joints are clean and dust free.
Fill the gap with grouting paste and a putty knife. Drying for 24
hours, apply the second layer if necessary and sand smooth after
drying

Step 9:-
Edging profile.
For a neat finish in the corners, cut the ends of the finishing strips at
45 degree.
Acoustic foam panels:
Acoustic foam panels are a type of sound-absorbing
material that is often used in recording studios, home
theaters, and other spaces where sound quality is
important. These panels are designed to reduce the
amount of sound reflections in a room by absorbing
sound waves and preventing them from bouncing off
surfaces.
When installing acoustic foam panels, it is important to
consider the size and shape of the room, as well as the
location of any sound sources. Placing the panels
strategically can help to minimize unwanted reflections
and improve the overall sound quality of the space.
It is worth noting that while acoustic foam panels can
be effective in reducing sound reflections, they may not
completely eliminate all noise. In some cases,
additional soundproofing materials may be necessary
to achieve the desired level of sound control.
