Describing forces

A force is a push or a pull of one object onto another object. We give some pushes and pulls
specific names:

Non-contact forces
gravitational - force of attraction between objects of mass, sometimes called
magnetic – force between _____________ and other magnets or magnetic materials
electrostatic – force between ________________ objects

Contact forces
friction – force that acts when two surfaces ______________, opposes sliding motion
upthrust – pushing force of displaced __________________ onto an object
reaction – pushing force of a solid surface onto an ____________ placed on that surface
thrust - general name for a pushing force provided by an _________________
tension – the pulling force inside an object that is being __________________

Some forces don’t fall into these categories, so we call them “pushes, pulls or twists”
