National Structural Code of the Philippines
Preface
“This updated Structural Code establishes minimum
requirements for structural systems using prescriptive and
performance-based provisions. It is founded on broad-based
principles that make possible the use of new materials and
new building designs. Also, this code reflects the latest
seismic design practice for earthquake-resistant
structures.”

Section 101
The provisions of this code are not intended to prevent the
use of any material, alternate design or method of
construction not specifically prescribed by this code, provided
any alternate has been permitted and its use authorized
by the Building Official.

LABORATORY
ACTIVITY

34
Laboratory Activity: Week 6
Preliminary Sizes
 For this week, the group will set the preliminary sizes and rebar details of the following
structural members of your building:
 Footing
 Columns
 Beams
 Slabs
 Kindly go through the NSCP for other provisions not covered in the lecture.
 Your computations for the preliminary sizes will serve as an attachment to your laboratory
report 3 (not yet due this week).
