Acrylic

In this piece I have used acrylic paint to create a 2D shell. The techniques I used where blending and I
created different colours and shades. This shell has very earthy, subtle, warm and natural colours in
contrast to the other shells. The patterns on the shell are repeated and the texture looks smooth,
the lines are angular, and they flow. While working with acrylic paint I learnt that you should start
with light colours and go darker. My work is inspired by Georgia O’ Keefe, she also used vivid and
bright colours and most of her work included shells. I think using acrylics worked quite well because
the colours of the shell are very close to the colours in the photograph. I am pleased with the
outcome of the blending and the colours I created by mixing brown and white.

Oil Pastel

In this piece I used oil pastel to create a 2D shell. This shell is dark, distorted and organic. The shell
has very dark tones with feint light colours too. The pattern is quite irregular and random. The
texture of the shel looks old bumpy, rough, and broken. The shell has earthy colours like brown and
yellow, the colours are also very dull. Whilst working with acrylics I learnt that you must build up the
colours to get the effect of the texture. I used the technique of layering which was a good decision
because I created the lines by layering and I created different tones by layering assorted colours. I
am pleased with the outcome; I would use oil pastels again.

Pencil

In this piece I used pencil to create a 2D shell with shadows. I used circle motion hatching
crosshatching and line to create this shell. The shell looks rough, spiky, and bumpy. There are dark
light and mid tones in the shell. I am pleased with the outcome of the shell, but I would not work a
lot with pencil anymore because it was the longest to draw.
