1. RATIONALE / INTRODUCTION
The looming inflated prices of products are continuously an issue amongst the majority
of Filipinos. The prices back then are now doubled, if not tripled. It is a concern that needs to
be addressed, particularly since the country’s economy is not at its best. Therefore, the
researchers of Group 3 of Blessed Peter Gubbio came up with a plan to both help boost the
Philippines’ global state and lessen the burden on Filipino households with our product, The
Shea Glow. This personal care product contains natural ingredients that nourish, cleanse, and
protect our skin, it offers various benefits! The product is wrapped or packed carefully with
environment-friendly packaging at a reasonable price! The researchers aim to gain your
support to be able to execute our project of helping Filipinos, its economy, and at the same
time, our environment with The Shea Glow.

With our Shea Glow bar soap, our idea is to give people more options on what they can
use on a regular basis, with several competitors in the market such as Dove, Palmolive, Myra,
etc. It would be hard for our product to rise in the competition but we can assure all our
consumers that the quality of our product is just as amazing as the best soap in the current
competition. We also want our customers to be satisfied with the product we make because it
enables them to moisturize their skin. And because it is simpler to purchase, this product is
superior to others.

There are many reasons why our product is highly beneficial to our consumers. The Shea
Glow bar soap that we plan to create is mostly made up of shea butter, thus using this product
would surely reach our consumer's satisfaction since shea butter is excellent when it comes to
moisturizing and nourishing the skin, not to mention, shea butter is eco friendly and
biodegradable since it is a natural product that can be sourced from sustainable resources
without harming the environment. Our main ingredient which is shea butter is very low in the
proteins that trigger allergies and it doesn't contain chemical irritants known to dry out skin
hence, making our product safe for all skin types. Shea butter has fantastic moisturizing effects
due to its fatty acid content, including linoleic, oleic, stearic, and palmitic acids, also, shea
butter has lots of vitamins A and E which can naturally protect and nourish damaged skin, a
high concentration of fatty acids and vitamins help produce the skin's natural oil barrier which
is critical in keeping skin hydrated, plumper, and younger looking. Our consumers should not
worry because our product is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and antifungal, and it also
prevents acne. Our product does not only benefit the skin but also has an aromatic and floral
fragrance since it contains roses and vanilla, our consumer's skin would not only look and feel
good but it would also increase one's charm because of its head-turning fragrance. Overall,
switching to Shea Glow bar soap will never bring you any regrets.
2. BUDGET PLAN (I)
For this project, we will be providing Shea Glow bar soaps to the residents of Barangay
USJR as a way to show appreciation for the barangay's cleanliness and discipline. There are 20
families residing in Barangay USJR and our team plans to provide each family a jar of Shea
Glow bar soap. So, in order to make 20 products of Shea Glow bar soap we need…

● 2000g of Shea Butter (100g each block of Shea Butter)

● 20 pieces of glass jar with caps
● 640g Dried Rose Petals (32g each)
● 580 mL Vanilla Extract (29mL each)

A. GLASS JARS
Our team found a wholesaler that sells glass jars in boxes with 1 box that contains 5 pieces of
glass jars. The seller sells 1 box each with a price of P60.00 if the buyer purchases less than or
equal to 4 boxes. However, if a buyer purchases 5 or more boxes, the price for each box would
be at P50.00

Let j(x) be the total price of an order of x boxes of jars

j(x) = { 60x if x < 4

{ 50x if x > 5

Note that each box contains 5 pieces of glass jars and we need 4 or 5 boxes to make either 20 or
25 products. We need to decide which one to pick in order to provide a proper packaging to each
of the 20 families. In choosing, we also need to consider the cheaper option.

j(4) = 60(4) j(5) = 50(5)

= P240.00 = P250.00

CONCLUSION
There is only a 10 php difference with their prices. If we need extra glass jars for the packaging
then, we purchase the 5 boxes option however we only need to provide exactly 20 glass jar
packagings; thus, we will purchase the 4 boxes option worth P240.00 which is also cheaper
compared to the 5 boxes option.

B. SHEA BUTTER
An online seller sells Shea butter at a price of Php120 per 100g. However, if someone buys 15
or more pieces of the 100g sachet, the seller gives a whopping 44%-off discount on the total
price of Shea butter. In addition, the store also gives a Php50-off shipping fee of Php115 for a
minimum order of Php300.
Let f(x) be the total price of Shea butter ordered wherein x number of 100g sachets bought.

𝑓(𝑥) = { 120𝑥 + 115, 0 < 𝑥 < 15

𝑓(𝑥) = { [(120𝑥)(. 44)] + 115, 𝑥 ≥ 15

For our product, we will be buying either 2000g or 2kg (20 pieces) or 1000g or 1kg(10 pieces)
of Shea butter. Which is more cost-efficient?

1000g or 1kg(10 pieces)

𝑓(10) = 120(10) + 115
𝑓(10) = 1,200 + 115
The order (1,200) is eligible for the Php50-off discount on the shipping fee, therefore
𝑓(10) = (1,200 + 115) − 50
𝑓(10) = 1,315 − 50
𝑓(10) = 1,265

2000g or 2kg (20 pieces)

𝑓(20) = [(120(20))(. 44)] + 115
𝑓(20) = [2,400(. 44)] + 115
𝑓(20) = 1,056 + 115
The order (1,056) is eligible for the Php50-off discount on the shipping fee, therefore
𝑓(20) = (1,056 + 115) − 50
𝑓(20) = 1,171 − 50
𝒇(20) = P1,121

CONCLUSION
We chose to buy the 2kg or the 20 pieces because it is cheaper because of the discount from the
store. compared to the 10 pieces or 1kg, that doesn’t have a discount and it is much more
expensive than 2kg.

C. DRIED ROSE PETALS

In an online app, a seller sells dried rose petals for P200.00 if the amount of dried rose petals that
the buyer wants to purchase weighs 30-35 grams. And, if the dried rose petals weigh 40-45
grams the price would be at P400.00. Note that we need 32 grams of dried rose petals for each
bar soap and we need to make 20 products.

Let r(x) be the total price of an order of x grams of dried rose petals

r(x) = { 200(20) if 30 < x < 35

{ 400(20) if 40 < x < 45
r(200) = 20(200) r(400) = 20(400)
= P4,000 = P8,000

Since we need 32 grams of dried rose petals for each product and 30 < 32 < 35 , we will choose
the option worth P200.00 and multiply it by 20 to get the total price which is P4,000.

Luckily, our team got a P2,000 off coupon from the online shop. The online store also has a
20%-off sale to any products purchased in the shop. The expected total cost that we planned to
buy is P4,000.00. If we can use both the P2,000 off coupon and 20%-off discount on our
purchase, what discount should we use first?

Let f(x) represent the amount to be paid when P2,000 off coupon is used, where x is the original
total cost
f(x) = x - 2000

Let g(x) represent the amount to be paid when the 20%-off discount is used, where x is the
original total cost
g(x) = x - 0.2x

A composite function that shows when the P2,000.00-off will be used first
(g º f)(x) = g(f(x))

a. Determine the amount to be paid if we use the coupon first

(g º f)(x) = g(f(x))
g(f(x)) = x - 0.2x
= (x - 2000) - 0.2 (x - 2000)
= (x - 2000) - 0.2x + 400
= 0.8x - 1600

b. Since the expected total cost is P4,000 then x = 4,000. So,

(g º f)(4,000) = 0.8x - 1600

= 0.8(4,000) - 1600
= 3,200 - 1,600
= 1,600

So, we will pay P1,600 if we use the coupon first

c. Determine the amount to be paid if we use the 20%-off discount first

(f º g)(x) = f(g(x))
f(g(x)) = x - 2000
= (x - 0.2x ) - 2000
= 0.8x - 2000
= 0.8(4,000) - 2000
= 3,2000 - 2000
= 1,200

So, we will be paying P1,200 if we use the discount first.

CONCLUSION
If we purchase 32 grams of dried rose petals for each of the 20 products (640g) we will get a
total price of P4,000. However, we received a P2,000 off coupon and also a 20%-off discount
from the shop thus, the total price will be changed. If we use the coupon first we would pay
P1,600 and if we use the discount first, we would pay P1,200. We will get a cheaper price if we
use the 20% off discount first. Overall, we will be paying P1,200 for 640g of dried rose petals.

D. VANILLA EXTRACT
A retailer is having a huge sale today, they were selling products in bulk including the 29mL
Vanilla Extract because most of the products were now in storage, and they’re trying to clean it;
its original price being sold per bottle is P50.75. The retailer had a tray that contained 5 bottles of
vanilla extract at a price of P120, if and only if the buyer purchased less than or equal to 3 trays.
On the other hand, a deal of P130 is if the buyer will purchase equal or more than 4 trays.

Let f(x) be the total price of the order of x trays of vanilla extract.

f(x) = { 120x if x ≤ 3 trays }

{ 130x if x ≥ 4 trays }

If we plan to give out twenty bars of soap in each household in the Barangay USJR, which option
is more affordable and efficient? How much will we pay if we buy less than or equal to 2 trays?
How about more than or equal to 4 trays?

a. f(x) = 120x
f(3) = 120(3)
= 360
b. f(x) = 130x
f(4) = 130(4)
= P520
CONCLUSION
The team is determined to purchase the second option of the bulk buying with the price of P520
since it already has 5 bottles in the 4 trays bought, considering that if it weren’t for the sale, the
team could’ve paid P1,015 if it was sold with its original price.

In order to make 20 finished products, the team would need..

Shea Butter 2 kg 1,121₱

Glass Jars with cap 20 pieces 240₱

Dried Rose Petals 32 g 1,200₱

3. BUDGET PLAN (II)
To give appreciation to the residents of the barangay, the team decided to fasten the
production of our bar soap. However, with all the efforts poured into the research, formulation
planning, purchasing of materials, and all other agendas, the team is left exhausted. Therefore, to
finish our objectives swiftly, the leader, Joey Rentuma, decided to give rewards or cash to
members that produced more soap to motivate us in the workplace.

Since the team has five members, the member with the highest rate will receive P250, the
member with the second highest rate will receive P200, the third will receive P150, the fourth
will receive P100, and lastly the member with the lowest rating will receive P75.

The team was able to achieve the objectives! We were able to produce 20 bar soaps for 2
hours. Now, all we need is another 2 hours for the hardening period of the soap, all in all 4 hours
were spent in making the product. The leader then calculated the number of bar soaps that the
members were able to create in the first 2 hours before the hardening period. In total, Member 1
was able to produce 6 bar soaps, Member 2 made 5 bar soaps, Member 3 made 4 bar soaps,
Member 4 made 3 bar soaps, and lastly Member 5 made 2 bar soaps.

How were the concept of functions applied for our product?
As a team with objectives to achieve, we were able to attain them by applying the
concepts of functions such as Piecewise and Composite functions. Throughout the first budget
proposal, we were able to show the ways how we weighed options to choose from based on their
practicality and low costs! The team was able to apply the steps and processes in solving the
concepts of functions by formulating equations and formulas using the discounts and prices
offered by the retailers. Doing these means, by applying the functions in real life, we were able
to improve our decision-making and problem-solving skills that are effectively useful.

4. CONCLUSION
Oftentimes we take for granted how useful math can be in our daily lives, sure we all
have the right to think that maybe we don’t really need much use of these confusing and
headache inducing solutions or functions. But what matters is that we have an idea on how to do
it, it may not be of much use as of now but we ought to start learning about these functions
because when the time comes when we need to use it, conveniently, we’ll already know how.
Let’s say for example you plan on creating a budget proposal and you want to show it to your
boss, however you know you must impress your boss in order for them to approve of your
budget proposal. Using rational and piecewise functions can help your budget proposal be
approved given you did it properly. In conclusion knowing something is better than knowing
nothing at all and by knowing rational and piecewise functions we used that knowledge in
creating an efficient budget proposal for our product.

6. DISCUSSION
The team was able to accomplish the task of creating recommendations by applying our
knowledge in Logic. Our recommendations are all compound propositions since it includes three
to four simple propositions, represented by the values of p, q, r, and s. In order for us to make a
logical statement, the members take it as a challenge to find ways in linking the three or four
propositions using the connectors of compound propositions. We were able to use negations,
implications, disjunctions, conjunctions, and biconditionals. The next part is where the real
challenge is: constructing the truth table. The table consists of rows and columns, each has its
own equation to verify if the values of the propositions are valid or invalid. After that entire
process, we can conclude that our recommendations are all logically invalid. All in all, learning
about Logic helped us realize the importance of understanding the reasoning of arguments and
allows us to be able to validate data.
