Dear Pawel,

I am sorry I haven’t written for such a long time was very busy with my exams. Thanks for your
letter. Hope everything is going well. How is your life going?
The first half of the 19th century was rich in talent, a huge number of world-class scientists. The
beginning of the Ukrainian national revival caused a growing interest in history and folk culture.
Therefore, many historical, linguistic, ethnographic works appeared. The development of science
requires Centers organized so that scientific activity contributes to the implementation of
scientists' achievements in life and the dissemination of their ideas.
By the way, do you know that the first research center Dnieper Ukraine was founded on the
Karazin Kharkiv Filotehnichne Company (1811-1818)? Although limited by the absence of any
government support capabilities, the company has made quite a lot. Its members popularized
advanced farming methods, new equipment contributed to the establishment of enterprises
processing agricultural products.
The development of astronomy helped establishing astronomical observatories in Kharkiv
(1808), Mykolaiv (1821) and Kyiv (1845). Interesting observation of celestial phenomena made
professor at the Kharkiv University T. Osypovskyi (1765-1832). He also was an accomplished
mathematician and created three volumes "Mathematics Course", which remained for several
decades basic textbook for the discipline. Outstanding role in the development of chemical
Science professors have played the University of Kharkiv and O. Hodnyeyeva Beketov.
Despite the difficult conditions for free scientific creativity during the Soviet era, Ukrainian
scientists were involved in all leading fields of science and technology — the development of
fundamental and applied problems of computer technology (the first in the USSR and continental
Europe was created. There were successes in various fields of science, you must have heard such
names as Oleg Antonov, Yevhen Fedorov, Ivan Krypyakevich and many others. Famous figures
of Ukrainian scientific development.People of my country very proud of these scientists and
their discoveries, in such a difficult time, despite everything, they started the scientific
development of our country.
I am very glad that currently science in our country is not standing still, and I want to brag to
you about our achievements. Virologists and immunologists from one of Kyiv's private
laboratories have developed an immunoenzymatic test that detects antibodies to COVID-19, that
is, it shows whether a person has immunity against the coronavirus. Also scientists of the
Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Institute (UkrHMI) of the National Emergency Service of
Ukraine and the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine have developed a method of
geocoding data from satellites regarding heat emissions in order to obtain information about
geographical objects on the territory of which these emissions were recorded, as well as an
original method of detecting forest and other potentially dangerous fires.
Moreover one of the main priorities is the integration of Ukraine into the European Research
Area. This is facilitated by bilateral international cooperation with EU member states, Eastern
Partnership countries, participation in the EU Framework Program for research and innovation
"Horizon 2020". technical program "EUREKA", NATO program "Science for Peace", etc.
Ukrainian research organizations and universities cooperate with international organizations and
foundations, including the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the Ukrainian
Science and Technology Center (UNTSC), the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research
(SCAR), etc.
In addition Ukraine is often seen by the international community as a country of Chornobyl
(Chernobyl), political instability, corruption, fertile soil, and agriculture. What Ukraine is not
seen as is a country of innovation. On Thursday, August 6, 2020, HUSI students participated in a
workshop on MAPA: Digital Atlas of Ukraine led by Dr. Viktoriya Sereda. This digital tool
allows one to study Ukraine from angles previously unexamined, illuminating a new side of
Ukraine for foreign observers. Similarly, this blog post attempts to see Ukraine from a new angle
through examining its technological innovation. Ukraine has a vibrant emerging IT industry with
significant potential for growth. The IT industry in recent years has become an important part of
the Ukrainian economy. According to the Ukrainian IT Industry: Analytical Report, IT is the
second largest industry in Ukrainian export. The tax revenue from the IT sector in 2014–2017
grew at a remarkable rate of 27% per year. Numerous international IT leaders have opened
offices in Ukraine, including Global Logic, Microsoft, DataArt, and Ubisoft.
Last summer I attended a business and IT school, I think it was one of the best decisions of
my life. So what about me and my future? The IT sector helps me to meet people from all over
the world. Thus, I am able to discover the world and better understand other cultures. This is
something that is impossible to do if you live in one country only, and yet I am able to do this by
working in this business. This industry also operates similarly in the US, Europe and Ukraine.
We all work with the same instruments and use similar techniques. Probably, it is not the easiest
sphere in science, but as they say « No pain no gain»
OMG… So much text! I’m sorry for that. Just wanted to tell you more about Ukrainian science.
Unfortunately I have to go. Give my best regards to your family. Looking forward to hearing
from you. Write back as soon as possible.
Best wishes
Denys
