Water Absorption Test:


Scope (advantages): - These test methods cover procedures for determining percentage
of waterabsorption for concrete block.
Specification: -
IQS1077-1985
Materials: - three
concrete blocks
Apparatus: - Laboratory Balance, drying oven, damp cloth
and water tank.
Procedure: -
1- Dry blocks are put in an oven at a temperature of (105- 115)°C till these
attain constantmass.
2- Cooling the blocks to room temperature then the weight of the bricks is
recorded andconsiders it as (W1).
3- The blocks are then immersed in water at a temperature of 27° ± 2°C for 24 hours.
4- The specimens are then taken out of water and wiped with a damp cloth.
Three minutes,thereafter it is weighed again and recorded as W2.
5- The water absorption calculated from the following equation: -

6- Calculate the average water absorption and compared with the specification
limits in thetable below: -
