Digital Economy & Digital Payment Division

(DEDPD)
The Digital India programme is a flagship programme of the Government of India with a vision to
transform India into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy. Promotion of digital
payments has been accorded the highest priority by the Government of India to extend digital
payment services to every segment in the country. The vision is to provide digital payments
facilities to all citizens in a convenient, easy, affordable, quick and secured manner
Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Digital Economy & Digital Payment
Division has been entrusted with the responsibility of leading this initiative on “Promotion of
Digital Transactions including Digital Payments”. MeitY is coordinating with multiple stakeholders
including Banks, Payment Service Providers, Central Ministries/Departments and States/UTs, for
promotion of digital payments across the country.

Induction workshop on digital payments for 175 IAS officers of 2015 Batch
 

Video conferencing session on digital payments with Ministry of Panchayati


Raj
A video conference session on promotion of Digital Payment and its modes was organized by
Ministry of Panchayati Raj on 21st July, 2017 chaired by Additional Secretary, MoPR. The
workshop was attended by representatives of 18 States over video-conferencing.  
 

Knowledge session on Bharat Bill Payment System and BHIM in Ministry of


Power
A Presentation on Bharat Bill Payment System and BHIM was conducted by NPCI in the Review,
Planning and Monitoring meeting of Ministry of Power at New Delhi on 22nd July 2017 chaired by
Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Power, Shri Piyush Goyal and graced by the presence of Central
Secretary, State Power Secretaries etc.

Workshop on promoting digital payments in MORTH


A workshop was organized by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways on 26th July 2017 at
New Delhi to explore the possibility of using National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) in State
Transport Undertaking (STU) buses. The NCMC is a contactless smart card which can be used for
multi-modal applications on transport, toll, parking etc. The workshop was attended by
representatives of 11 STUs.

Intervention with Women SHGs # BHIM ## *99#


A training session on RuPay/BHIM/*99# was conducted for women SHGs on 19th July 2017 .
Women SHG members from a local NGO participated enthusiastically to understand modes of
digital payments. Training focused on explaining how to download the applications, use them,
prerequisites to use them and benefits of using digital modes of payment.
 
 
 
 

Workshop at Ministry of Human Resource Development


(MoHRD)
Three-day conference was conducted by Ministry of Human Resource Development on 9th July,
2017 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, the conference was attended by the 1000+ Vice Chancellors
from across the country.

Intervention with Ministry of Panchayati Raj


NPCI was part of the panel discussion on Digital Village held on 27th June 2017 under Ministry of
Panchayati Raj at Bhopal.

   
 

Training of Power Finance Corporation employees:


A presentation on BHIM and its schemes was given by Digidhan Mission team to Power Finance
Corporation officials on 4th August 2017 in their Delhi office. The workshop was attended by
around 50 officials.

Digital India is a flagship programme of the Government of India


with a vision to transform India into a digitally empowered
society and knowledge economy.
E-governance initiatives in India took a broader dimension in the mid 1990s for wider sectoral
applications with emphasis on citizen-centric services. The major ICT initiatives of the Government
included, inter alia, some major projects, such as railway computerization, land record
computerisation etc., which focused mainly on the development of information systems. Later on,
many states started ambitious individual e-governance projects aimed at providing electronic
services to citizens.

Vision Areas of Digital India


The Digital India programme is centred on three key vision areas:
a) Digital Infrastructure as a core utility to Every Citizen

● Availability of high speed internet as a core utility for delivery of services to citizens
● Cradle to grave digital identity that is unique, lifelong, online and authenticable to every
citizen
● Mobile phone & bank account enabling citizen participation in digital & financial space
● Easy access to a Common Service Centre
● Shareable private space on a public cloud
● Safe and secure cyber-space

b) Governance & Services on Demand

● Seamlessly integrated services across departments or jurisdictions


● Availability of services in real time from online & mobile platforms
● All citizen entitlements to be portable and available on the cloud
● Digitally transformed services for improving ease of doing business
● Making financial transactions electronic & cashless
● Leveraging Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) for decision support systems &
development.

c) Digital Empowerment of Citizens

● Universal digital literacy


● Universally accessible digital resources
● Availability of digital resources / services in Indian languages
● Collaborative digital platforms for participative governance
● Citizens not required to physically submit Govt. documents / certificates
