Social stratification:

• Upper class: 10% Indian fall under this category. Can afford luxurious
things and have an income above lakh or crore per month.

• Upper middle class: Person in income around in lakhs are in high income
group. Class which has high end needs and wants. E.g., Senior
executives, also are settled and have more than one house.

• Lower middle class: People whose monthly income is between Rs.


10,000 to Rs. 1,00,000. E.g., Technicians, able to do whatever they want
and have more purchasing power.

• Working class: The working class consists of individuals and households


with low educational attainment, low status occupations, and below
average incomes. They are 1% able to satisfy their requirements.

• Working poor class: The working poor are people who spent at least 27
weeks in the labour force (that is, working or looking for work) but
whose incomes still fell below the poverty level. The working class
consists of individuals and households with low educational attainment,
low status occupations, and below average incomes.

• Under class: The underclass is the segment of the population that


occupies the lowest possible position in a class hierarchy, below the
core body of the working class. The people whose income is beneath
this threshold are below the poverty line. Since 2007, India has set its
official threshold at ₹ 26 a day in rural areas and about ₹ 32 per day in
urban areas.
