 ONE WAY ANOVA

- Analysis of variance (ANOVA) is a statistical technique that is used

to check if the means of two or more groups are significantly
different from each other.

- One-way ANOVA refers to a type of ANOVA test where there will

be only one independent variable. The test compares means of
groups, generally three or more groups, to analyze the variance.
-
- ANOVA checks the impact of one or more factors by comparing
the means of different samples.

The calculation method involves the comparison of means from

independent groups using F-distribution.

THE FOLLOWING HYPOTHESES ARE BEING TESTED IN A ONE WAY ANOVA.

H0: µ1=µ2=µ3=……..µx
H1:Atleast one of the means is different from the others.

The null hypothesis states that the population mean for all treatment
levels are equal. Because of the way the alternative hypothesis is
stated, If even one of the population means is different from the
others , the null hypothesis is REJECTED.

- Testing these hypotheses by using one-way ANOVA is

accomplished by Partitioning the total variance of the data
into the following two variances.
1. The variance resulting from the treatment (columns)
2. The error variance, or that portion of the total variance
unexplained by the treatment.

.
ASSUMPTIONS OF ANOVA
1) Observations are drawn from normally distributed populations.
2) Observations represent random samples from the populations.
3) Variances of the populations are equal.
